Watched the entire anime, the movies, the OVAs, and read all of the volumes. I own Season sets 1-3, and assorted individual DVDs. I fuckin' LOVE Ranma 1/2. Always have since I first saw a commercial for it in the back of my Pokemon VHS tapes when I was, like, 7.

so, now that I've read the SAO novels until the end of the ALO arc, I'm interested in how they're gonna animate this [editline]3rd December 2012[/editline] the novels are pretty good
I keep forgetting the name of the anime with the slightly autistic painter/manga artist. It doesn't help that you guys have nicknames for the shows :v:

your images aren't working [editline]3rd December 2012[/editline] now they're working
From what you've said before, it seems the videos you have use .srt files for subs (which contain no font data), rather than .ass files, so you'll have to configure how the default subs appear to make it not look like shit. First of all, if you're using VLC, stop doing that. Now that you're using MPC-HC, go to Options -> Subtitles (main tab) -> set the "maximum texture resolution" to desktop -> Default Styles (under Subtitles) -> edit the font and colors to suit your fancy
[t]http://i.imgur.com/zKXJb.jpg[/t] Why do these subs look like shit and how can they be fixed
I'm telling you to stop using VLC and go to proper shops to buy DVD and Blurays from man. I have never encountered shitty subtitles unless they were hardsubbed, so it's amazing that you manage that feat two times in a row on well-known shows everyone and their grandmother has tried to sub.
Jesus, you guys and your VLC hatewagon.
We hate it for a reason, it's a terrible piece of garbage. It's only a good solution for PC's you don't have administrator rights on.
But the subs ARE a VLC-specific problem?
Toradora! simply wasn't subbed and I utterly failed at extracting the subs from another version
How do you even get a version without subtitles in the first place? This doesn't make one inch of sense. There are a bazillion people out there who have subbed Toradora! I have also re-muxed subtitles a bazillion times and never once have I ever encountered a problem with the font not following with it. You're either brainfucking your PC to the extent that it can't distinguish 1 from 0, or it's because of VLC. I am pretty sure the answer is VLC, if it isn't then you're telling me you're brainfucking your PC.
Toradora! simply wasn't subbed and I utterly failed at extracting the subs from another version
How the hell did you manage that
What reason is that then? I have never had a problem that's VLC-specific, only with the subs themselves
It doesn't rely on external codecs (which are more efficient and powerful) and tries to do everything by itself. This makes it unreliable, prone to way more codec related problems and it fucking sucks at rendering text and placing them properly. Especially if there is typesetting. Skipping with VLC causes the image to get a heartattack and throw artifacts all over your screen, and it's not as responsive either. It has 99 problems with subtitles and you're experiencing one.
[t]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/62645815/mpc.png[/t]
Now then tell me this. Did you just download MPC or did you actually install it with a codec pack (CCCP or K-Lite)? Because if you just downloaded MPC standalone then that won't do shit for you. Also, to enable the default style: Right click your video hover over the subtitles menu Enable "default style"
Same thing, since that's just the default, I need to be able to force sub styles somehow
You shouldn't have to worry about forcing a sub style (on MPC anyway), as if show has subs in a .ass file, they will show as intended. However, if you've got .srt files, then you'll either have to delete them and obtain .ass files from somewhere, or configure your MPC-HC to show them in a way that doesn't look terrible.
[t]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/3655193/Turnondefaultsubtitles.jpg[/t]
I installed it standalone, should I install codecs from CCCP/K-Lite?
Yes, otherwise it does you as much good as playing it with Windows Media Player (which also relies on codecs) With the codec pack (I prefer K-lite, it's up to date and has less bloated stuff packed with it) you get filters that find the fonts for you and ensure that they are displayed properly. As well as codecs to play pretty much anything efficiently of course.
Alright, installed everything I could in K-Lite, clicked that option, restarted MPC-HC [t]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/62645815/mpc2.png[/t] Be right back, stabbing hooker
Hmm, add me to Steam, maybe its easier to figure it out instant message style. [editline]come on Eileen[/editline] Come on then, I don't bite, that hard. [editline]If you know what I mean[/editline] It's right below my avatar, easy to add. Then we can discuss this over a cup of tea.
Hmm, add me to Steam, maybe its easier to figure it out instant message style. [editline]come on Eileen[/editline] Come on then, I don't bite, that hard.
I don't think the problem is the player he's using, it's the release.
I don't think the problem is the player he's using, it's the release.
Yes, no shit. But no matter what you should be able to override the font used, which is where I'm confused, because it's clearly soft-subbed indicated by the subtitle choices.
At least the white outline doesn't show in MPC-HC I found some other subs but they're in Russian :v
ADD ME TO STEAM
We hate it for a reason, it's a terrible piece of garbage. It's only a good solution for PC's you don't have administrator rights on.
funny, I've got both VLC and MPC-HC with CCCP installed just started up Yuru Yuri [thumb]http://imgkk.com/i/jdj_.png[/thumb] will you people just admit that they both have their weaknesses and vlc isn't universally bad and mpc-hc isn't the best thing since sliced bread [editline]2nd December 2012[/editline] and when I close that dialogue on MPC it starts playing but there are no subtitles and everything is pink
