Today I decided that I wanted to hold an "Animation of the Year 2012" poll once the year ended, but I had to figure out a few things first. The first order of business was determining what could even be voted on. The choices I came up with in order to determine that are:
• Anime that ended in the year 2012, regardless of when it started
- ◦ The one I ended up choosing
So after I decided on the 2nd option, I had to figure out what anime ended in 2012. I used this MAL search to sort TV entries by their ending date, and proceeded to enter every single one into a spreadsheet (..alphabetically).
Sounds sweet.
Also, by the "...alphabetically" statement, do you mean you manually sorted them by their name rather than sorting it out after adding every entry? Because any decent spreadsheet program has the capability to sort information ascendingly or descendingly based on letters, numbers and so on.

Welcome to the new Fast Anime. The Fast Anime you thought you knew is long gone.
People here now endorse Strike Witches.
Fanservice is seen as a good thing.
Everything "cute" is oogled over with big horny eyes.
There can be several pages of discussion about shows that are generally deemed as shit... Saying they are good.
You can get banned for things that used to be standard and caused Fast Anime to be Fast Anime in the first place. (:v:)
A handful of the population tries to defend dubs.
People still don't understand that VLC is fucking terrible.
We've lost 50-70% of our regulars because of the evil circle effect. One regular leaves, more irregulars can join, more irregulars join, less regulars wants to say.
you should still add the two as exceptions
if bleach got in and hellsing didn't in the action category, surely you would still add hellsing because of sheer common sense?
Fanservice is just annoying now. If I want to see hot anime grils then i'll go look up hentai or somethin'
Don't really understand why you'd watch an anime that revolves around panty shots and tits or sexual innuendos in general.

No, the OP vote is a democracy, not a monarchy or dictatorship. (stop rolling your eyes guys)
the entire point of the op is to recommend good series instead of the generic shit most people view anime as, this might be democracy but not including the true gems is going completely against what fast anime recommendations has stood for for the past few years
sure you can and should include the stuff people voted for, but excluding the gems completely because of fanservice-lovers not giving them any votes is wrong and shouldn't happen
even you should know this deep in your beard
Im a proud voter of yosuga no sora
Everyone should.
we need chunkymonkey back so he can yell at newcomers
I mostly browse /a/ nowadays. I has the same "mature and edgy" effect that FPFA used to have. It's now mostly worn off for the most part.
like the time I think he yelled at that Zondac guy, a long argument erupted and Zondac eventually stopped posting

Oh, now just look at that :v: I would have never know. I've heard that song before because I have the Magic Disc CD. Well, I have their whole discography pretty much. Only two physical CD's of theirs.

don't forget about people talking about how cute the girls were last episode for several pages, and all of it in spoiler tags

The reason Fast Anime has stood for that is because our members have stood for that. As those members fade away that attitude slowly fades away with it.
There would be no point in having a OP vote if I decided what shows should be included no matter what.
Deep in my beard I am as always saddened by the dumb votes, but that's my opinion on the votes, that shouldn't have any effect on the voting results.
don't forget about people talking about how cute the girls were last episode for several pages, and all of it in spoiler tags
I don't really mind.
Think about it this way, older members will eventually leave but without the new guys then Fast Anime will probably only see a handful of new posts per day.
"I don't really mind"

but eh I couldn't really be bothered finding another Sho Minamimoto avatar to put a santa hat on so I just went back to my old roots. It's the same avatar I used in 2009 I think.

If it's perverted comedy I'm okay with it. Shows like Kanokon are good because they don't try to have a story or have any real shit going on (the last 2 episodes or so were obviously just thrown together to not label it as softcore hentai), it's just blasting away on the humor at all times.
What I have a problem with is fanservice in shows that tries to take themselves seriously or have a plot/story at all. Rosario to Vampire for example is one of those shows that should kill itself for having fanservice because it tries to have a somewhat serious story going on as well.
Kanokon and Green Green however entirely revolves around the theme of sexual jokes and situations, so it's ok.
And of course just simply porn shows like Queens Blade are out of the question, no comedy there.

have you watched sora no otoshimono?
Sounds sweet.

Nah, I originally went through and only chose anime that were between nov 31st 2011 and dec 31st 2012 , and added them through as I saw them (which just happened to be alphabetical). But I wasn't getting the exact results I needed, so I was entering in a lot of things I didn't need to. It was only after I went through them all once that I realized I could sort them by end date & include everything that ever aired simultaneously. That was when I finally got the search that I included in the post, and later just filled them in by hand since it was already mostly alphabetical.
have you watched sora no otoshimono?
Nope.
the entire point of the op is to recommend good series instead of the generic shit most people view anime as, this might be democracy but not including the true gems is going completely against what fast anime recommendations has stood for for the past few years

The way the poll is set up at the moment is "lowest common denominator", not "quality". I'm fairly certain that there are a few genres that people watch more than anything else, and will often seek out when looking up new anime to watch. Mine happen to be (in order): "Comedy", "Fantasy", "Action", and "Sci-Fi".
If you wanted the poll to be about Quality you would have to restructure how people give their votes, and what they're allowed to vote on. One way to do that would be to limit the amount of genres listings you can vote for.
For example, let's say we used this new method of voting that limits the amount of genres you can vote for. We use the genre listings that are currently in the OP, and you're only allowed to vote in 3 separate categories. However, you can vote for 10 different anime in each one. Each anime you vote for has a weighted score (from 10-1) based on how high you voted it in the list. If you can't think of 10 anime to recommend, then the scores are curved based on how many you submitted.
The downside to this voting method is if there's only a single person voting for a genre, it'll be "like a dictatorship". For example, i'm pretty sure Die_Hard is the only one here who would choose "Mecha" as one of their genre of choice, so their opinion would be law. That's not necessarily a bad thing because Die_Hard is also probably one of the few us of that actually cares that much about mecha in the first place, so he could probably give you some really solid recommendations.
Nope.
should watch it, it's pretty great imo
got 2 seasons and a movie, i'm currently halfway through s2
