Something light and sharp
Something light and sharp
Ah, an assassin, i see.
The who?
Show on fox or some other paytv, where they compare different ancient warfares to see which was the deadliest. They also do current ones. Samurai vs Vikings etc.
Well there's an officer's sword lying somewhere around the house and a replica musket w/ bayonet on the wall.
After prolonged use those kill your joints. I'm not kidding. Not to mention parrying with those is nigh impossible, they can't really penetrate through armour and only would work well in stealthy attacks. One of those into your spinal cord = fatality.
And disabling your hands in a stealthy attack is not a good idea.
Any sharp object into the kidney will be fatal and quite clean in terms of blood and goo that would spray out if for example the throat was slashed.
And disabling your hands in a stealthy attack is not a good idea.
I'd rather a single dagger. Slice the enemy's neck once with that and it does the same trick. Not to mention it's easier to handle. The claws look cool, but have little actual use.
Most berserkers actually used either spears or battleaxes. Spears could be thrown and you could pierce someone from the stomach, then lift him up and move your spear around to make his body roll around your spear like a ragdoll. Some berserkers did this to demoralize their foes and make them afraid. Worked wonders on some groups, I hear.
They actually used pretty much anything. Typically the berserkers, or berserkr, (Which meant bear shirt. Whether this meant animal hide shirt, or literally shirtless is up to interpretation.) were thought of as having a weapon in each hand, although a lot of lore references them fighting sword and shield. They often bit into their shield, while they were raging and waiting for a battle. I typically refer to the modernized ideas of a berserker, though, which typically include a dual-wielding aspect.
Since I actually train Taijitsu I get to use Katanas a lot. So I go with one handed weapons. Especially the sabre type.
I didn't know berserkers actually existed. Pretty cool.
Roman Spearmen are also pretty awesome. [img_thumb]http://www.tinbay.com/images/catalog/iv/ancient/romi/iv-rom-i-10/1.jpg[/img_thumb]
I didn't know berserkers actually existed. Pretty cool.
There's a lot of neat Norse lore. It's why I'm so fascinated with it.
I didn't know berserkers actually existed. Pretty cool.
Norwegian vikings were the first ones if I remember correctly. They used some sort of shrooms to enter in a trance. Once in the trance they just went apeshit.
Norwegian vikings were the first ones if I remember correctly. They used some sort of shrooms to enter in a trance. There's a mental disorder that is the mental pathos of a Berserkr. It's something like 'Explosive' something disorder.
Berserkers were just batshit, you don't need to know how or why, you just didn't fuck with them.
Well most of their tactics consisted of striking fear into their enemies. They'd quickly get fatigued on the battlefield however.
Berserkers were just batshit, you don't need to know how or why, you just didn't fuck with them.
Truer words never spoken.
Spears. It's light and long, so it's easy to handle and it gives quite a distance between you and the enemy.
I remember reading a historic novel about the life of Attila and Flavius Aetius and the battle between the two. According to it, in the battle, a group of holy horsemen were involved, huns that were painted, as well as their horse, and that used nothing but lassoes. They lassoed the romans and just rode away. Then again, the same story has Attila's kids destroy the roman artillary entirely, so idon't know.
Well most of their tactics consisted of striking fear into their enemies. They'd quickly get fatigued on the battlefield however.
Nope. That was the main thing about berserkers. They just kept going. Incredible stamina + adrenaline rushes up the wazoo. They basically waded into combat, killed everyone while they had enough adrenaline to keep functioning, and dropped dead after the fight.

So in a nutshell, they were the best warriors ever graced on this earth, but with a price just as big. Im actually trying to sort of recreate the berserkergang style myself, adapting it into my liking and then some more. That's what got me into steel and stone.
I'd probery pick a Mace/Sheild or Knifes. Mace's are quite fun acually.
Would be cool if someone made a movie about Vikings. Real ones, talking ancient nordic laungages and whatnot.
All three. A Scimitar and shield, a claymore on my back and a pair of manji sais. And a backup double edged extra curved kukri.
Spears. Dual wield daggers or swords or a combo of the two.
take the largest shield. Now take 2 of them. Now you are dual wielding shields. [editline]14th April 2011[/editline] Also OP, what's your opinion on the cestus?
Dual wield daggers or swords or a combo of the two.
To be honest dual wielding is for exhibitions and show-offs. It's completely impractical. A better combination would be an attack weapon and a parrying weapon. [editline]14th April 2011[/editline]
take the largest shield. Now take 2 of them. You can see that he no longer wants to be a spearman from the fact that he's throwing his spear away.
If we're talking games, two-handed all the way. Nothing like swinging around a sword the size of a small child. If we're going with real life; as much as I love claymores and the like, I'm not built enough for that. I'm not going to kid myself, I'd be awkward with a big, two-handed weapon. I know some aren't that heavy, claymores typically don't weigh as much as you think, but they're still slow to swing. I'd rather go with a small, well-balanced sword. I'm fast enough on my feet, but can put enough power behind one hand. A shield would be extra bulk and lock me down in place, which pits me against upper-body endurance instead of lower-body.
