Can a 50 cal sniper shot take your head off from 6 in away? - General

ITT people act like they know what they're talking about.

The shockwave might make make your head sort of pulverize, but not clean off. It depends if it is a hollow point or a FMJ, but i think most military ones are FMJ

A 50 caliber shell produces an absolutely massive amount of energy, if you look at it from a standpoint of motion being energy. That much energy would be transferred to you as the bullet went through you. It might be a clean entry but with all the things in the way (skull and other bones) that energy would be shifted to you. So are we talking about a .50 cal shot to the head fired at 1 foots distance, or a .50 cal bullet missing your head by one foot? In the second case, no it won't kill you, but you'll feel it passing by. In the first case, it's possible that the head will be "blown off", there would probably be only a part of the neck left, maybe the jaw too. I saw some footage of U.S troops in combat with Taliban fighters in which I belieave a 50 cal was used. You could bearly see the Taliban do to them hiding behind rocks and debre. But when that 50 cal hitem the force would fling them out from behind said rock. I will try to find the video.
