i've got a mate called gabe newell; whilst I originally found this hilarious she was showing me on facebook how many times she gets random friend requests from nerds, and she also showed me this one message of some guy from iceland pleading her / him to get an employee from valve fired
nobody else really got why this was a big deal but I still find this hilarious

how many people do they send each year to ensure someone reaches the end of the pilgrimmage? what if more than one person reaches the end of the pilgrimmage? what if no one reached the end? how would everyone else know before the apocalypse started?

the end of the pilgrimage would probably involve a heroic sacrifice of the pilgrims to keep whatever it was sealed away. I suppose it could be handwaved with the fact that somebody always succeeded despite the odds.
