Maybe I can convert him and make him cool
or maybe I'll just not like him by week 2
So I'm on a quest to watch all 22 Ghibli movies in release order and I have now watched half of them. Also rewatching the ones I had already watched. Quick thoughts and stuff.
Nausicaä of the valley of the wind, 7.5/10 - Pretty great for their first film and it has aged pretty decently for a 30 year old movie. The sound effects and such are really charming.
Castle in the sky, 7.5/10 - Fun movie with some pretty impressive animations.
Grave of the fireflies 7/10 - I feel like my super high expectations for this sorta ruined it a bit for me. As far as sad movies/shows goes it did nothing for me and seeing as my only expectation was to cry I was pretty disappointed. Still good tho.
My neighbor Totoro 8.5/10 - Think I liked this one even more than the first time I watched it. Everything about it just makes me so happy.
Kiki's delivery service 8/10 - Very cute movie, not sure what else to say.
Only yesterday 8.5/10 - Definitely not for everyone but I'd still say that it's extremely underrated. Only 1 person on my mal friends list watched it. It's very slow but has some very likable characters which made it worth it.
Porco Rosso, 7/10 - Was good but it felt too much like a Disney movie or something if that makes sense. Was good but a bit too silly at times.
Ocean waves, 4/10 - Their only direct to tv movie and animated by young people working at the studio at the time, they did a pretty decent job at that but the characters were very unlikable which made me dislike it quite a bit.
Pom poko, 6/10 - Really fucking weird, especially for a kids movie. Really not sure what else to say other than that it was okay.
Whisper of the heart 8.5/10 - More people here need to watch this too, really good with very likable characters. Looking forward to the 'The cat returns' spin-off.
Princess Mononoke, 9/10 - Just as amazing as I remember it being, very impressive animations.
Continuation, finished all the movies now.
My neightbors the Yamadas, 6/10 - Was ok, gave me a few chuckles. Would've worked much better as a short show with like 3-5 min episodes probably.
Spirited away, 9/10 - Still great, not much else to say I think
The cat returns, 6.5-7/10 - Was alright, felt pretty pointless but it was a pretty neat spin-off of whisper of the heart.
Howl's moving castle, 9/10 - Same as spirited away
Tales from earthsea, 5/10 - One of the most bland movies I've watched, the most basic of fantasy plots with some really boring art. Especially after just having watched howl's moving castle. It was Miyazaki's sons first time directing a movie so I'll sort of forgive him tho.
Ponyo, 6.5/10 - Good animations and pretty cute at times.
Arrietty, 8/10 - Really nice and simple movie with great music
From up on poppy hill, 7/10 - Miyazaki's sons second attempt at directing and he did a much better job this time, was better than I expected.
The wind rises, 8/10 - Hideaki Anno voicing the main character felt super weird at first but it grew on me real fast. Very interesting movie.
The tale of the princess Kaguya, 9.5-10/10 - One of the best animated movies I've watched and easily my favorite Ghibli movie. Art is so fucking beautiful and the main character is super likable. Very lengthy too which I think helped a lot. Also the ending made me cry like a bitch. If you like Ghibli please watch this movie. Some pictures to show off the art, 1 2. The whole movie looks like this and it's amazing.
When Marnie was there, 8/10 - Pretty different from the rest of their movies it being a mystery/psychological movie sort of. Worked really well tho, good stuff.
I really hope they'll keep making movies.
Just finished watching Cowboy Bebop for the first time and it was really good, is there anything similar that someone can recommend?

second image that was my actual screen resolution. I was used to laptops and that was the first time I used a desktop. I hated how everything was so small at 1080p on a 21" monitor so I put it to that resolution lol

Just started Haibane Renmei. It seems like it'll be an interesting worldbuilder. Just one episode in I can already see why it and So Ra No Wo To are always getting compared.

It's really good, probably a favourite of mine, it progresses really well and the characters are good.
Man my uni fucking sucks,no internet in the dorms and the broadband services here suck
Thankfully my roommate is watching almost all the same shows as me this season so I'm getting by
My backlog is going to get even more ridiculously big
To whoever talked about Qualia the Purple: thanks for making me read manga instead of sleeping. After starting i just couldn't stop. The ride was amazing and at times difficult to comprehend. I never expected something to play with my mind so much. Especially not from a manga that starts quite tame.
I really recommend this to anyone who has any interest in paradoxes or thought experiments, as well as other philosophical ideas. This manga not only covers them, it uses quantum theory itself as a tool.
10/10 and i love that who mentioned this manga here.
Now i can finally sleep after marathoning it.
Burning through GTO right now, this shit is hilarious!

Call me an inhuman monster but I watched almost the entire series with a pokerface. Like its not that the jokes go over my head its just that I look at it and my brain just says: "This is a joke" and that's all there is to it.

Gungrave also has some really good thematic vibes although its soundtrack isn't as good as bebop (then again what anime trumps bebop in that department?). Although the other guy had slightly more relevant recommendations. My watching order would be= samurai champloo, gungrave, space dandy.
Space dandy is too funny/humor oriented to give the proper holy shit sugoi bebop vibes that the ending episodes had.
EDIT: black lagoon has some good bebopish vibes as well.
BTW guys I am looking for an anime that makes me want to watch the next episode right away.
Any things in this list that stand out to you guys and say MUST WATCH (there is some non anime shit in there sorry):

Aoi Bungaku and Ayakashi are both great, well, I've only seen one arc of Ayakashi because it was the prequel to Mononoke.
watch the bakeneko arc of Ayakashi and then Mononoke (the tv show not the movie princess mononoke.)

I already watched mononoke actually. It was pretty cool although oddly enough for me the highest point of the entire show is the OP. Such a great and unique sound to it.

did you see the arc of it that was a part of Ayakashi or just the standalone stories? cause the Ayakashi arc is probably my favorite one.

Just the stand alone stories (AKA the mononoke series).
