Ok what the fuck was with the ending of Lovecraft's Herbert West - Reanimator story
[sp]The zombies suddenly ganged up and killed the living shit out of West? That's ridiculous, couldn't Lovecraft come up with a better ending?[/sp]
I heard that he was unhappy with his pay for it and other shit so he purposely made the ending shitty.
I heard that he was unhappy with his pay for it and other shit so he purposely made the ending shitty.
Fair enough. Still, the story itself was nice. Also finished The Lurking Fear.
According to his letters, Lovecraft wrote the story as a parody of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. He drops in numerous Frankenstein references (even hinting at the poetry of Samuel Taylor Coleridge, as Shelley did) and purposely makes scenes overly violent, gruesome, and clichéd.

Lovecraft claimed to be unhappy with the work, writing it only because he was being paid five dollars for each installment.[2] Moreover, he disliked the requirement that each installment end with a cliffhanger, which was unlike his normal style. He also had to begin each installment with a recap of the previous episode. Lovecraft scholar S. T. Joshi claims that "Herbert West–Reanimator" is "universally acknowledged as Lovecraft's poorest work."[3]
I read The Crawling Chaos recently and reread The White Ship. Neither are scary and they're kind of similar but I really do enjoy The White Ship.

I enjoy all of Lovecraft's works.
Is The Rats in the Walls any good, or should I skip it and read it later?

I thought it was okay. Some would disagree.
Read Cool Air, The Colour Out Of Space, The Whisperer In Darkness, and The Dunwich Horror ASAP, if you haven't done so already.

I'm fine with that. I can remember many days looking through shit like that for anything that may be worth downloading.
