He isn't doing his usual "Depp Quirkiness" in the movie. The animation is seriously the best I've ever seen. The characters ooze charm, despite being so ugly. It's gritty, but cute. Every bit of the scenery is meticulously detailed, nothing looks out of place. The writing is good enough that anyone of any age can get into it. The voice-acting is top-notch, full of recognizable voices, but they're voices that actually fit the characters, rather than just being shoehorned in. See it once for the story, see it again for the animation.
