ECDL.
I have my book of that somewhere, WORST COURSE EVER!
Yeah, when installing it just choose "choose between Windows and Ubuntu on startup" (or something to that effect; I can't remember the exact wording)

At least you're actually learning programming. Through the whole year all we've been doing is the ECDL. The whole thing is just learning outdated versions of Microsoft Office. Apparently the whole thing is worth one GCSE. I could finish the whole course in 3 weeks if I really tried, but from what I've heard there's really no point because employers don't value that qualification much at all.
Plus, the whole course is web based and only works on Internet Explorer. Meaning I can't do it from home.
I WANT TO LEARN PROGRAMMING GODDAMMIT.
Just go buy some books at the bookstore and learn it yourself. Thats how i learned.

I'm doing the ECDL too, it's fucking easy as shit. Learning how to type on Word 03 :c00l:

We have a mandatory Computer Applications class in my school. It's terrible, because you can't test out, since it uses Microsoft Access, which means nobody knows how to use it, or cares. It is an entire semester, they monitor your computer, and if you aren't working, they think you copied the assignment from someone else, even though it takes 10 minutes. Oh yeah, and it uses Office 2000, so it isn't even remotely helpful with today's software.
Got a seventh PC. [sp]Netbook[/sp]
I really hate our goddamn IT-unit at our school, it takes like 5 minutes to log in and they keep telling us that they will fix it, but it has been like this since christmas, and they put very much time into trying to upgrade the antivirus on one of the computers. There have been a nite for over a month note on the computer saying "Don't turn this computer off, because it's updating" and they have inspected the computer twice. FYI we are using F-secure on XP machines (they have fancy stickers on them saying "compatible with windows vista)
WTF is wrong with the admins.
The computers at my school still use outdated technology. It's supposedly XP Pro but looks and feels like 98. :argh: You can't right click anywhere on the desktop either.
Might as well just get Windows 7 or something; if the school board has money, maybe use it to update the technology? Other schools in our district have better computers. :frown:

hey, I have to work with p4 and celeron dells, the cases of which are filled with dust, and the os itself (XP pro, but it runs slow as shit) is stuffed with shitty software (including dell's bloatware) and deepfreeze 5, which reverts everything on boot. oh and did I mention that it also has several antivirus programs, all of which inform you that they aren't functioning properly (virus definition file from years ago, doesn't work on guest account) on boot?
and this is the Computer Graphic Arts class :frown:
it takes 3 minutes to use the goddamn smudge tool. and it's not a lack of funds. the head of school just bought two Promethean boards (the interactive whiteboards. they use a projector and a rather expensive whiteboard so that it acts like a touchscreen. they're anywhere from $1000 to $5000 depending on the model.) which easily cost enough to provide us with computers that do not take 5 minutes to open the "save file" window in Photoshop. I can do better than what we have for a bout $20 each.
oh and the teacher is an idiot. someone asked me how to use onionskin in flash (flash mx. I don't even know the version number. I know it's before CS though) , so I told them. apparently this is "undermining his authority"
Dumb friend: I need to upgrade my PC, but I don't have $2000 to spend on upgrades
Me: You can build a decent rig for less then $1000
Him: Umm no, I went to newegg and the parts I want are over $2000
He wanted a $1,300 CPU and a $500 GPU and other random parts that were not compatible
:colbert:
apparently this is "undermining his authority"
I hate how teachers use "undermining". THEY of all people should know it's more of an attack or corrosion meant to weaken foundations, literal or figurative, over time... so unless you're doing this to prove little-by-little that the teacher is an idiot and get him fired, it's not undermining but simply helping with something he didn't know.
of course, correcting a teacher on this would undermine their authority.
edit-
come to think of it, if you were being mean, snyde, or otherwise cocky with how you showed the onion skinning, making a point of him no knowing anything, then you'd be undermining his knowledge of the coursework, which is the only thread of authority he really has on the class. remove that, they won't pay attention. Still, I presume you were being helpful, not rude.
So my friend was on a computer in class today, and he has his homepage bookmarked on the desktop for some reason, he clicked it and hit enter, and it was taking a while so he pressed it a few times. He realized he just shot himself in the foot and decided to go full suicide and just spam the enter key. After around 50 small IE windows popped up, some kid from behind goes "how in the WORLD did you get it to do that!??" As if it was that hard to do. Then he said this...
"Oh, I see, you probably just copy/pasted it."

At the summer camp I go to, there's a UT3 and a HL2 modding course. I do believe I'm taking the HL2 modding this summer.
Here's a gold one that just happened a few hours ago
I was playing Myst 3: Exile tonight and I got quite far in the electric/energy age where you have to use the generator for everything. I hear the Skype ring and I alt+tab out and hit Decline because it's a fat kid that goes to my school that wants to try to make me watch anime with him. When you hit "Decline" it shows up on the caller's screen as "Busy".
I go back into Myst and I'm just about to get the symbol when I hear the chat sound quickly followed by the call sound, followed by 4 chat sounds. Here's where the fun part comes in. Somehow, I guess Myst couldn't handle having Skype in the background because I got Vista's infamous "myst3.exe has stopped responding and cannot work". I went to go back and finish the level off without replying to this kid (because I was pissed enough that the game crashed) and I hit Load Game.
Myst 3 doesn't auto-save.
Basically, I had just lost a good 4 hours of fucking trial and error puzzles from some fat kid with sweaty nipples. I raged at him over Skype and this was his excuse:
"I thought when it said "busy" the line was tied up so I called again and sent a lot of messages"
He thought Skype was the telephone and that he was somehow using the computer as the telephone
Kill him, and sacrifice his body to the old gods. And then tell his parents and the teachers (don't forget
the police) that the magical squirrels in your back yard did it. You have to sound SERIOUS, otherwise
you will get charged for murder instead of being sent to a Psych ward.

again, is this iD by any chance?
So while avast was scanning mah pc for this one virus I said, "Wait, what am I doing? I can stop it with task menu." So I pressed Ctrl+Alt+Delete and a window came up saying "winlogon.exe is infected! Remove the infected file? (Yes) (No)." :eng99:
I cant help to think of what a computer illiterate would do in a situation like that.
speaking of AV software, one time, windows defender tried to remove the steam community game overlay.
and the head of school just bought another Promethean board, but we are stuck with these shitty computers. I want to learn 3D modeling, but I can't cause these can't handle it anything. well, maybe blender, but I don't want to try it.
Beggars can't be choosers.

I bet that pissed off one or more of the employees there.
Honestly anybody in my school board who has administration privileges who thinks that whatever they don't understand or doesn't look completely like work must be closed right there.
So about a month back we're doing course selection for our next year. I choose my courses, then find out we have a while left until we can leave. I open up a new tab in their crappy-ass IE 7 and head to my website, deciding to just make sure nobody's posted any crap on the forums and do some moderating.
Out of pure boredom and the itch to censor some certain words, I head to the word censorship page and start changing words like "fag" to "homosexual" and whatnot. Suddenly, my mouse starts spasming and starts randomly clicking shit on my screen. I think great, some confused old man in the office saw "bad words" so he's going to start something about it. Instead, he fucking closes the tab (I hadn't saved any of the changes I had made, how frustrating.) and remains in control of the mouse for like a good minute or so. Then, a laggy little pop-up window saying "Stcik too your course lection!".
Also reminds me of a time that my civics teacher was just browsing through possible school mascot names (we need to change ours, it was offensive to aboriginals. It was like "Joe Raider" and the mascot was a happy guy in a native-looking jacket. OH DAMN IT'S RACIST! It's been around for 50 years, hell the old one was actually racist and nothing was said about it), and suddenly her mouse is hijacked. It starts scrolling up and down the page for like ten minutes, then stops, then continues again every minute or so for the rest of class.
Makes me want to eat something violently.

I'm going to use this phrase whenever something pisses me off.
