also microsoft windows has backwards compability, you can run programs intended for windows 95 on a win 7 computer but you cant run a OS 9 or older on a intel mac
There's no 16 bit support for x64 :(
Can we please post illiterate stories, the Mac hate is getting annoying.
I know, I know. Let's try and keep this to mactards at best, not a discussion on what the hell is better.
The rest of the thread IS making fun of PC users, if that's any excuse. v:v:v
I use Windows 7 on my Macbook 60% of the time.
Some things just run better in Windows, some in Mac OS.
I'm really embarrassed to post this because of all the idiots who say Macs are the best.
Oh god, people that try to make up shit around me because I'm literally the only kid with money within this few square miles by me.
Me: I have an Alienware Aurora.
Kid: I have one too man.
Me: That's cool, where'd you buy it from?
Kid: Aurora.com
Me: Dumbass.
That above one has happened once..
Kid tried to say he had an Alienware Aurora to compare it to me, but like, obviously yeah.. Why the hell would a company's name be Aurora ?
We need more of your breed of honest mac users around here, Ezhik. [img]http://www.facepunch.com/fp/rating/heart.png[/img]

Yeah, that's what I didn't get. >.<
Kids out here are retarded rednecks.
I'm more in the, man prep that no one likes category. :D
Edit:
@Dain
It looks cool imo, and I like having higher up name brand stuff like that, even if it's over priced. Like Aeropostile clothes, I wear that, when I could just wear cheaper clothes. It's mainly just for show.
Why would you buy an alienware?
as far as PC's go, it is overly expensive... but the name branding is at least comparitively cheaper if you think about how much a mac that powerful would cost.
Sorry Ez, had to crack the joke. More towards our smug friend steve jobs than anything. I'll try and cut back on the razzin' :sweatdrop:

If I were one listening to this conversation, I would be making more fun of the person who bought the Alienware over the person who wasn't aware of what one was.
It's not illiterate to lie in an attempt to not be ashamed when someone is bragging about their name brand overpriced hardware. On the other hand, it is illiterate to pay many, many times the value of a product to get this name brand. Regardless of how much you like having the "cool" brands, it's still illiterate from the eyes of someone who knows the technology. Saying you like the "cool" brands is just your way of justifying the illiteracy.
Fucking hate that kid now.

That's all preference, really. I love the way Alienware designs their stuff, but I couldn't care less for Apple's design.
I agree, more or less. I prefer the more techy look than the soft designer style.

Compared to a mac of similar price they are much more powerful. That still doesn't mean they aren't overpriced.

I mean, $4000 for a machine with an i7 and a 5870? You could build something like that for at least 1500 less (I don't really know exact pricing because I'm British and not used to thinking in dollars)
Daniel: Oh hai there, i can make a custom pc for you
Me: um ok
Daniel: you have to buy the parts, and if i break it, its NOT my fault
Me: *facepalm*
Daniel: LOLWUT....
Me: fag
(Daniel is a loner in my school that tries to persuade people to get their pc built by him.)

Apple clearly don't know what a "bottleneck" is. The above is from a machine using an i7. Priced at $1200.

I never rely on automerge, I always edit, then manually type [editline]1:11[/ editline] for that little edit thingy.

Ok, this has been pissing me off forever. About two years ago my family decided to upgrade our PC. And by "my family decided" I mean we had an eMachines with 512MB of ram and a 2.1GHz single core processor, which eventually got infected with some sort of virus that just kept restarting the thing when it booted up. Sick of keeping this god forsaken shit box of a computer running, I told my family comcast updated our internet, and we need a new computer to run it. This is all in the year 2007. So, I got on newegg, and put together a pretty decent machine for about $700. I consulted with some tech support forums, and found out everything would work and how to set this thing up. I go to my dad, and he tells me to call up this guy our family uses for tech problems. I emailed him the parts list, and he basically sends me an email telling me to never build a computer. If anything goes wrong apparently, there is no one single company to ask for tech support.
Now I'm mad. But my family, being the tech illiterate people they are, eat up his bullshit and decide that we have to buy prebuilt. I tell them that the main argument behind this, the one tech support line, is bullshit. First of all, even if the PC did break and we had to send it in, the shipping cost alone could add up to $60 or more. Plus, the free warranty the thing does come with will only last six months, and any additional coverage costs about $100 a year. My family still refused to listen to me, and I was forced to go with the pre-built. I ask the guy to send me a link the PC he has in mind, and I'm very clear that I want it to have a decent GPU. He sends me a link to an HP model. All the specs are average, not too bad, then I got to the graphics card. A freaking 9400gt!!! I emailed him back saying that the 9400 cannot run any games at any sort of decent quality. So, he ends up sending me a link to, of all places, Alienware. Oh I was pissed. The icing on this double decker shit cake? The alienware he built for us had the same specs as the one I sent him from newegg, and cost an extra $400! At this point, I just said fuck it. I told my family this was the PC the guy said we needed, and they paid for the whole thing. Despite my telling them that this was a waist of $400, and that this guy was a freaking idiot, they still went ahead and bought it. So yeah, I got my gaming computer, but it still upsets me to this day that the first decent PC I will have ever owned was an overpriced alienware.
tl;dr: I say shit a lot and rip on alienware
^This is exactly why I have my own gaming computer I built.
You should be sort of glad though, because if you did build it, anything that goes wrong will be blamed on you.
at least they're good memes. I'd complain if someone started posting "My ping was over 9000!".
One time I was playing Left 4 Dead and it really did reach over 9000.
No, seriously.

I guess you're right, I would just really like some experience in PC building.
NextGenHacker101 1337 kido has not replied yet, maybe he's too scared to use the PC anymore.
