Backup Reformat Reinstall I will give you a whole donut if you can find a virus that cannot be fixed by this.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virus :smug:
You'll need to bring out an external programmer for most of the times, as lots of motherboards does not have any recovery functions.
I thought that Flashing the BIOS was independent on wether the motherboard had a backup of it. my plan would just be to flash in a new BIOS version and "job's done".
The father of a friend of mine thinks that whenever he play Xbox live it costs more money when the bill comes, so he ain't allowed to play Xbox online.
Ok, this has been pissing me off forever. About two years ago my family decided to upgrade our PC. And by "my family decided" I mean we had an eMachines with 512MB of ram and a 2.1GHz single core processor, which eventually got infected with some sort of virus that just kept restarting the thing when it booted up. Sick of keeping this god forsaken shit box of a computer running, I told my family comcast updated our internet, and we need a new computer to run it. This is all in the year 2007. So, I got on newegg, and put together a pretty decent machine for about $700. I consulted with some tech support forums, and found out everything would work and how to set this thing up. I go to my dad, and he tells me to call up this guy our family uses for tech problems. I emailed him the parts list, and he basically sends me an email telling me to never build a computer. If anything goes wrong apparently, there is no one single company to ask for tech support. Now I'm mad. But my family, being the tech illiterate people they are, eat up his bullshit and decide that we have to buy prebuilt. I tell them that the main argument behind this, the one tech support line, is bullshit. First of all, even if the PC did break and we had to send it in, the shipping cost alone could add up to $60 or more. Plus, the free warranty the thing does come with will only last six months, and any additional coverage costs about $100 a year. My family still refused to listen to me, and I was forced to go with the pre-built. I ask the guy to send me a link the PC he has in mind, and I'm very clear that I want it to have a decent GPU. He sends me a link to an HP model. All the specs are average, not too bad, then I got to the graphics card. A freaking 9400gt!!! I emailed him back saying that the 9400 cannot run any games at any sort of decent quality. So, he ends up sending me a link to, of all places, Alienware. Oh I was pissed. The icing on this double decker shit cake? The alienware he built for us had the same specs as the one I sent him from newegg, and cost an extra $400! At this point, I just said fuck it. I told my family this was the PC the guy said we needed, and they paid for the whole thing. Despite my telling them that this was a waist of $400, and that this guy was a freaking idiot, they still went ahead and bought it. So yeah, I got my gaming computer, but it still upsets me to this day that the first decent PC I will have ever owned was an overpriced alienware. tl;dr: I say shit a lot and rip on alienware
Whenever this happens, I have learned that the only way to gain people's trusts, is to know a lot of fancy words, such as "This processor is 32nm, and that processor is 90nm, meaning mine outputs less heat and is therefore faster" Just remember that everything most end in "and thus makes it faster" and then you can basically tell them that this paticulare brand of DVD-Writers doesn't collect as much dust and thus makes loading CD's faster as the laser has to burn through less, or something.
I thought that Flashing the BIOS was independent on wether the motherboard had a backup of it. my plan would just be to flash in a new BIOS version and "job's done".
But how would you get into the flashing utility if the BIOS was corrupted?
But how would you get into the flashing utility if the BIOS was corrupted?
depends on motherboard in question, some from DFI have dual bios's so if one fails to load it can default to the other. That said, any BIOS virus is likely to be specific so would deal with this sorts of deviations. They're the worst type to get as they can actually cause damage by turning off thermal controls/fans etc.
I actually think that most BIOSes contain an read only sector that usually contains the flashing utility and some very basic boot and floppy instructions so just in case you completely fuck it up, you can still attempt to flash a proper BIOS on. (Yay for write protect jumper on the mobo).
What. No seriously, what did he just do? [editline]10:39PM[/editline] Good thing he was trolling, though.
http://img520.imageshack.us/i/dsc00429uh8.jpg/ My favorite picture of all of them.
My friend's dad didn't want him installing Windows XP onto his mac on another begin since a virus was CLEARLY going to go onto Windows immediately and then migrate to the mac partition and cause a meltdown. Like the computer's CPU would liquefy.
Dumbass That's obviously fanboyism or just plain stupidity.Although it may happen when he opens IE6 and goes to a virus infested site without him knowing it
Some girl in my computer class accidentally pressed f11 and the screen got smaller and the aparent computer teacher "expert" in the class thought the girl broke the computer and that it was a virus
Throughout my years of school, my friends have all praised me for being so good with Windows because I can type cleanly and quickly and because I know how to write a simple document in MS Word. ...I'm so shitnasty with software, aren't I? Also, ITT: Someone posts something about Macs, turns into big discussion taking up ~a page and a half, rinse and repeat.
So I was playing some Garry'smod with a friend over... and he asked how I got all of these custom models, I answered "Oh, I just downloaded them, see?" he replied "Oh cool, but be careful when you spawn them!" I had to ask; "Why?" he replied "Oh, when you spawn a prop you could get a virus!" :geno:
speaking of consoles, the other day, my friends started taking about a "pro" friend of his, who is really good at mw2. then he says he uses a turtle beach headset, and explains surround 5.1 as though it's something new that only pros use, and will change games forever.
My friend is the poorest person I know, lives in the shit neighborhood, and has a pair of Turtle Beaches. They're really not that pro. EDIT: As page king, here's some content My friend said he was making a game today. I asked him what engine he was using to make it. He said he'd send me the file instead. You know what he sent me? A .jpg picture of something he made in Paint, with the bottom elongated and a ton of fake code like
player_move_forward_with_click death =150 x24 emeny(sic)5444 ghest
And he honestly thought it would work, he thought if he saved it as .exe he could run it and play it.
I helped convert 2 people over to PC gaming today because they want custom content for games they cant get on the 360, like custom maps and mods for WAW, L4D2, etc. and I told them how easy it is to install and they're looking into it. :D Sure it's not illiterate and they're not fanboys but still it's cool.
About flashing a bios. i believe that it matters a donkey (nothing at all) if you have access to whatever flashing utility on your motherboard that just got raped by a bios eating virus, AS LONG as you have a program that is capable of flashing the bios, a bios for the motherboard AND a bootdisk containing everything you need. no props. [editline]06:59AM[/editline]
I helped convert 2 people over to PC gaming today because they want custom content for games they cant get on the 360, like custom maps and mods for WAW, L4D2, etc. and I told them how easy it is to install and they're looking into it. :D Sure it's not illiterate and they're not fanboys but still it's cool.
t's cool, as long as you didn't drag it over their head. Job well done though.
When my sister got her 3rd gen ipod nano, she wouldn't use my cord cuz it was from an ipod classic; she was deathly afraid it would fry her ipod :downs:
1:Put bios on Bootable usb stick 2:Boot from USB stick. 3:Flash bios.
If the BIOS is destroyed? there are nothing to boot up from, you will just get a black screen. Sorry if im wrong but im not very experienced with the BIOS.
If the BIOS is destroyed? there are nothing to boot up from, you will just get a black screen.
This right here. You can't boot into anything without a BIOS, that's why dual BIOSes are used in the first place (there would be no point if you could reflash the BIOS after it was corrupted). [editline]09:44AM[/editline] A motherboard with a corrupted BIOS and no recovery functions is essentially bricked, only a professional with special tools could fix it. That's why flashing a BIOS is generally considered very risky and not something to do unless you really need it.
Me: I can use Photoshop Idiot: Oh we have that at our school too Me: What did you use it for Idiot: We recorded videos of ourselves acting :downs:
Indeed it is. EDIT: Oh, and the BBC iPlayer :argh:
Stands for internet player me thinks.
My mom sent me the "Zero Sector" fake virus email. http://img97.imageshack.us/i/blckinthewhtehouse.png/ :downs:
"This new virus has been discovered recently it has been classified by Microsoft as the virus most destructive ever." The ending in that sentence killed me. :cawg:

One of my friends says something like "I like macs because I like computers that actually work" Everyone who heard immediately cracks up around him... What is it with Mac-users and pretending that PCs can't even stand up to them? Most PCs work better than equally-priced macs.
If it's just a virus that erases the BIOS I think it would work on most systems.
An external NOR-type flash programmer isn't that expensive.
Ok maybe not only professionals, but I'm betting even among computer geeks there are relatively few people who could do it.
