Your avatar is the difference between home school and regular schooling.
In what sense? In all honesty, most people I know who were home schooled all the way through high school are more or less socially inept. There's a lot more to going to "regular" school than simply learning the material. You build social skills that you simply cannot get with a home schooling education. After being home schooled myself for 4 years (1st-4th grade) and returning to public school, I felt it was a nice change and, looking back, definitely helped me develop socially.
Why do people even get home schooled? Whats the point?
People who don't trust the schooling system.
Why do people even get home schooled? Whats the point?
Well in my case, I was ready for 2nd grade when I was at the 1st grade age, but the school system in my area wouldn't let me skip ahead. So my parents basically said "screw em", continued homeschooling me (though I did most of it on my own) and by the time I was 16 I had passed the SAT and started college. The social part of it did handicap me a bit, but my parents didn't shelter me so I wasn't totally isolated from other kids. And 4 years of university helped a lot.
"All the programs by Microsoft were coded in Javascript." :downs:
I made a very angry face at your post.
Me: Oh my god mum I have the red ring of death! Mum: What the hell is that is it going to explode!? Mother proceeds to take cover in the kitchen. [editline]06:19PM[/editline] If you're interested, it was only 3 lights because the plug came loose.
(home schooling story)
rated heart :buddy: also, on the job thing, I've got KIND of an illiterati-update for y'all. First off, best buy's manager couldn't figure out how to load new applicants. I was lost in their system. Second, I got a side-job as a photographer for this magazine that covers most of northern illinois/souther wisconsin. I'd be covering most of my county. The job? bar-hop, 15 minutes and $15 per location, just getting pictures of drunk people having fun and posing, catching whatever event is being held there, whatever. that isn't the problem; the problem is that the lead photographer who hired me is one of those "I'm a boss and I know everything" kinda people, who knows nothing of what they're doing. For instance: required: your own digital SLR with 18-55 lens. The reason is NOT the fact that you need the 18mm range to get wide shots of groups of people up-close... he states that you need the camera because of the resolution and quality. You see, there are people who think that it is expressly the camera that makes you a good photographer. problem with that: he wants the resolution intact from RAW data; that's photos about 3,000x4,000 from my camera, 12mb a piece. the pictures in final print are about 2" tall thumbnails printed using cheap magazine coloring, so it's like 50-fuckin-DPI... meaning the pictures he ACTUALLY needs are about 50x100. ON TOP OF THAT: he uses the built-in flash on the camera. The problem? A dead-on flash makes people look greasy, washed out, and even more drunk than they are. He's so proud of his work and ability that he refuses to listen to me tell him about one simple trick involving a proper flash: point it at the ceiling, get natural lighting results. beh.
You build social skills that you simply cannot get with a home schooling education.
Not true at all. I am home schooled and there is no lack of social interaction due to dozens of other home ed's in the area, and thousands more across the country (U.K). I'm not saying I've met all of them, just that it's not a case of being literally in your house the whole time. I should also point out that it is not impossible to have friends who are in school as well, which I have.
Back to the topic of computer illiteracy, my friend said that he can hack my Facebook account. I ask him how and this is what he said:
I have to get your email address and then go into command prompt, type in your email and it'll give me the password.
Needless to say I spent a few minutes trying to explain to him how that's impossible, but I had given up. :eng99:

My step brother thinks if he stops seeding his torrents his computer will stop working. He doesn't have an upload cap so you can imagine what this does to the bandwidth.
My step brother thinks if he stops seeding his torrents his computer will stop working. He doesn't have an upload cap so you can imagine what this does to the bandwidth.
sneak onto his torrenter sometime and cap it as low as you can?
point it at the ceiling, get natural lighting results.
I never went to any sort of photography school or anything like that, for me it's just a hobby. And it didn't take me long to figure out about that. Awesome results without any editing: [img_thumb]http://i40.tinypic.com/nvxfg8.jpg[/img_thumb] (Click it)

THEN I had it pounded into me at college. :/
I wish i could go to a photography school or something like that, but i'm just 16. There are no photography schools for people at my age close to where i live. :|
I wish i could go to a photography school or something like that, but i'm just 16. I took a few things at the local community college by me... but I spent most of my time running around helping other students learn photoshop, just like every other fucking class I EVER attended regarding computer art :argh:
I don't really know exactly what a college is, due to diffeerence in school systems and our language. :saddowns: But there's this Media and Communication class at our local school, which is pretty much photography/all Adobe programs and so on. If everything goes according to what i hope, i'll start on that school after the summer vacation is over.
college, university, I'm not sure what other names it has. it's after high school (12th grade)
Wow, what? 12th grade? We have 10 grades here. 1-7 = "kid-school*" 8-10 = "Teenage-school*" Then it's 3 grades of whatever you choose. These are called 1'st, 2'nd and 3'rd, not 11'th 12'th and 13'th. Not really sure about later schools. :| (*directly translated.) Our school systems are completely different, so let's talk about something else to avoid further confusion.
12th grade here is age 17-18, then college is the "whatever you choose" kind of school. you can go for as little as 2 years, and depending on what you're going for, you can go for 8 years or more. :raise:
Our school systems are completely different, so let's talk about something else to avoid further confusion.
Well what country are you from then? But basically College/University is optional education after the government mandated education. So if you have any friends in IT you should know McAfee fucked up today with a virus definitions file (marked svchost.exe as a virus on XP 32 bit systems). Well at the end of the day (keep in mind this happened in the morning, several emails were sent throughout the day about it from central IT) my Uni's newspaper outs out an online article about it claiming it was a "corrupted" file/update sent from McAfee. Now I know media reporters are not the most technically literate, but God damnit Central IT sent out a mass email that fully explained the situation (in terms anyone could understand) three hours before, and they even interviewed the central IT head. edit: Some choice lines from the article:
Windows XP machines world-wide, running on McAfee anit-virus protection, quit working this morning after a corrupt file was sent from the company this morning

However, Windows Vista, Windows 7, cell phones and Mac products were not affected,

The corrupt file caused computers to sporadically reboot, and then wouldn’t stop rebooting,

What the dick am I reading?
brb installing McAfee on my cell phone :downs:

Your guess was very close. Norway. :buddy:
"All the programs by Microsoft were coded in Javascript." :downs:
I was drinking a glass of water as I read that, when I had finished I just paused, put my drink down and said aloud, "dear god"
