i had just built my first computer and had told some of my friends at school... i guess it spread(considered quite amazing to my small class since half of them dont even know what an operating system is... ) and someone came up to me and the following conversation took place.
Them: i heard you built a computer, how is that even possible?
Me: well you have to.. (cut off)
Them: like did you make it from scratch?
Me: I ordered parts online and put them together
Them: oh, you didnt build the parts
Me: no.
Them: oh.... you should make the parts too next time *walks away disapoint*
da fuck?

confirming that i shit gtx 480s at least once a day
Console gamers usually have a computer as well, though it's usually used for either work or facebook.
Console gamer: £190 Xbox360 + £400 computer + Xbox live subsription = £600 and rising over the years.
PC gamer: £550 computer.
[editline]08:54PM[/editline]
Plus console gamers usually play on some bigass TV screen that costs like £800 while PC gamers can play on a monitor with a higher resolution for a lower price. That and the fact that you can emulate pretty much any game from previous generations on the PC makes it much more affordable in the long run.
Looks like i'm the opposite of what you said:
I usually hook my PS3 and my PC to the same 22" monitor, giving me 720p on the PS3 (it doesn't support "custom" resolutions) and 1680 x 1050 on the PC.
PS3 = no subscription fee.
My PC costs like 1000$, though it's worth it. (self-built)
I don't have a Facebook acc.
When I was young, I thought the moniter was the computer and the computer was the moniter.
When I was young, I thought the motherboard was the CPU, RAM, Hard drive and everything. The graphics card was the only part you could take out.
And my dad told me the CD drive was a monster who ate kids who touched the computer without his permission. :ohdear:
I have a new quad core PC with 6 Meg of RAM and Win 7 64 bit. Firefox 3.6 was going crazy with memory leaks even with all add ons disabled and nothing happening. Also, CPU of one core would max out all of a sudden for no reason. I installed AFOM and Memory Fox and it's MUCH better, still upwards of 100 MB but dropping down to 25MB or so after little while. CPU is normal as well. I think this is the best solution before developers fix the issue.
how can they mess up megabytes with gigabytes? it keeps going like that. some of them are either extremely picky with their ram usage or have no clue about what a KB is and how it most definitely isn't a megabyte and that 112KB of usage on a browser would be a blessing. how can such a small detail piss me off so royally?

it's about Firefox Memory leaks. these guys are very savvy about some things, but the meg/kb/gb= "teh saem" thing makes me hate them more than you guys hate macfags.

On the same topic, something I made for the giant pre-GTX 4xx debate:

I dont care, both are great, but I prefer ATI.
the way I see it, with ATi you get more power for less money, but you also get some shit drivers/driver controls. with nvidia, you get less power for more money, but some of the best drivers/driver controls available, and some nice extras. it's really a matter preference though.
I've always used AMD so I'm pretty used to it. And I like being cheap.
ATi has been always my personal favorite since the cards are easier to follow for me. Nvidia is also great but I don't follow them.
2 new shiny, brand new Dells arrived today at work, and they both have Windows 7 installed. My boss went "Oh crap this Windows 7 sucks, they should have installed XP instead"...
*facepalm*
[editline]05:04PM[/editline]
If I ever hear "Win 7 sucks, XP FTW!:hurr:" again, I'm gonna snap >:(
I use XP rather than 7 because I'm poor and lazy.
*sigh* The more and more I read on in this thread, the more and more inferior I feel my knowledge is about computers. I used to consider myself pretty intellectual about this stuff, but reading all these "surprisingly" intelligent posts makes me feel like there's so much I'm missing.

'Cuz you are.
I kid, I kid, I only know about the stuff I had/own/want.

Hey I feel the same way but it's with some more advanced software and language I don't understand.
I use XP rather than 7 because I'm poor and lazy.
I sometimes use XP cause the surplus p4 dells that I buy have xp pro licence stickers on them.
"I don't know why everyone thinks Vista is so much better than XP. Especially when it's total shit."
I kid you not, my friend actually said that Vista was total shit compared to XP. (XP IS better, but not
that much)
I love how people are still on about that XP vs Vista war when we have Windows 7 and nobody has complained a bit about it.

Are they 2 CPUs with hyper-threading? And it's 3.00 GHz?
If it is, that's the processor for my dell
Man, this thread brings me back to the time when my custom LED studded rig was just a wee little E Machine :unsmith:
P4's are single-cores...
[editline]10:22PM[/editline]
Even more illiteracy in a thread about illiteracy.
A single core Hyperthreading CPU shows up as two logical CPUs in Task Manager.

well, I have 5 of these you know. lowest is 1.8, highest is 2.6

I agree. I actually told my boss, along with the IT guy, that "Windows 7 is better in many ways than that old-ass XP you have installed on your laptop"... and he said something like "Oh but it won't connect to a SAP server as my XP laptop does, it has issues, so it's still crap"...
*facepalm again*
well, I have 5 of these you know. lowest is 1.8, highest is 2.6
Too bad I have a Dell with a 3.2ghz P4.

It's okay, but I can never love daijitsu as a friend the way I used too. :frown:
Not really computers but internet related
The Computer lab "Teacher" insists that you have to pay google money in order for your website to show up on search results
and she says that you shouldn't get involved with flaming on the internet because when you go to apply for a job somebody will search up your name on google (But I haven't payed google, How will any sites with my name show up? :fuckyou:) and find out what you have been saying over the internet.
She then contradicted herself by saying to never use your real name on the internet.
:sigh:
