Next thread name: Computer illiterate people who think they know things v4 A.k.a Mac vs PC 2010
that was this thread. i think we should ban direct unprovoked bashing of any system in the next thread.
P4's are single-cores... [editline]10:22PM[/editline] Even more illiteracy in a thread about illiteracy.
?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyper-threading Lemme make it clear. 2 Logical CPUs are not LITERALLY 2 CPUs
Alright in 18 posts I'll create the next thread alright? and i'll see you at the next thread in Hardware and Software
Friend: "Isn't Ubuntu a different version of Mac?"
Well, they ARE both based around UNIX, IIRC. [editline]08:02PM[/editline] But that's probably not what he meant.
-picture- ?
A Pentium 4 processor has technology called hyper-threading. Your OS and computer see it as 2 cores but it is really just one that is good at multi-tasking.
Holy shit, daijitsu is a moderator now
Why isn't this thread in the Hardware forum?
Why isn't this thread in the Hardware forum?
The next one will be.
No joke on this, just proving that my school's IT department is a brainless bunch of monkeys. Recently, I discovered how the district managed its internet access; every school in the district is connected to the same server that sits in a non-air-conditioned room in the high school. Due to just plain stupidity, all the computers in the district are assigned the same IP address as every other computer because they use ethernet hubs as opposed to ethernet routers with NAT capability. Even better is how they use Sophos Corporate Anti-Virus (that requires a user to be a member of the SophosAdministrator group to start the damn program). All the computers in the district are ghosted from literally 7 images on the server. Every copy of Windows XP Professional in the district is not activated (and the activation is frozen at the thirty day mark). Essentially, the entire district's life is on that server. Did I mention there's no semblance of a firewall, antivirus, or countermeasures of any kind on the server? Earlier this week, the server caught the Antivirus 2010 virus. With the network set up the way it is, the virus propagated until every computer in the district had the stupid "You have 1000 viruses buy this program" message. Unfortunately, pretty much everyone fell for it, and all the computers in the district had to be re-ghosted. We had ZERO computer access from Wednesday onward. I had a discussion with the head of the IT department, expressing my disappointment and concern that he had no idea how to keep a server secure nor did he have the intelligence to give each computer a separate IP address nor did he have the skill to set up roaming user profiles (that's right, every time anyone logs on to a computer, their entire profile is copied to the computer's hard drive, which takes several minutes). His response? "I graduated from college with a degree in IT, and I don't need some lame-brain telling me what to do with my job. I know exactly what I'm doing." I got a detention, but I'm like the hero of the school now.
You should totally gain access to that server and pour a glass of water on it. The story reminds me of the woefully inadequate server at my elementary school. There is a computer in each classroom, sometimes two. There is one computer lab with about 20-35 computers. The server that these computers use to login? Oh, a fucking PowerMac G4. Apparently the new Intel iMacs were netbooting off the server, somehow. While doing the graduation video, I had to switch between iMovie on that iMac and some deprecated version of Adobe Premiere Elements on a shitty P4 machine constantly running out of hard drive space. I needed to get a few scenes from a DVD, so I used handbreak on that iMac. Then had to copy it to a USB stick for the P4. For whatever reason, Titles didn't work in Adobe Premier Elements, so I had to copy the video to the iMac from the P4, then add the title/transition, then move it back to the P4. Some video clips on there were re-encoded six times. The day of graduation (About 6 hours away from the current point in time), I had finished everything. So I (On the P4 machine) clicked the Export button. What did I see? EIGHT FUCKING HOURS TO RENDER! So when the entire eight grade and their families were supposed to watch that movie, my teacher had to explain that due to technical difficulties, the video couldn't be shown. I felt like shit. Oh, the day after that I found there was a "Teacher" account in the iMac which gave me FULL access to the computer with an OS that boots off the hard drive and saves to the hard drive. Sigh. Anyways, a more recent tale, and probably more relevant to the thread... A person at my school said he wanted to use Linux, though I said that you would have to give up a bunch of windows programs. He said that you just needed to have the right "Codecs" to use them. He said the same thing about Xbox 360 games on a computer. "No, you can play them on a PC, you just need to get the game files off there and run them through the right Codecs". Class average for computer science (ActionScript Programming): 54% My average in that class: 100% I did most of the work independently, everyone else gets a PDF the teacher makes which gives them 80% of the code, yet I'm still asked to help. Come on, I shouldn't need to help when the teacher is spoon feeding it to you and when the program fucking generates a random number in between two integers... And the teacher gave you the fucking code to generate the fucking numbers.
Shouldn't daijitsu make the next thread? Also seeing as it will be in the Hardware forum there will be more original content from the people who rarely venture into Fast Threads.
Holy shit, daijitsu is a moderator now
Same feeling. Congratulations! [editline]23:00[/editline] Also daijitsu for next thread.
holy shit new thread Computer illiterate people who think they know things V4: Now with 30% less Mac!
Is this dead yet?
Let me give you this. It should explain everything that angered me this past weekend. Thank you, MSPaint.
Apparently not...
My sister thinks the graphics and UI of all games are constantly changing... That's why every time she sees me playing a game I JUST told her about when she asked an hour earlier... She asks
What game are you playing? :downs:
I swear, one day, I'm going to snap... It will be so epic that everyone in a five block radius of my house will hear the passive center of my brain shatter.
My (apparently) web design teacher saying that in PHP you can use a single equals or two equals, they both work in the same way. He said that I was wrong when I said that = sets a value and == compares the two values.
Whenever she uses the computer, hang around uncomfortably close to her and constantly go "SO IS THAT FACEBOOK OR MYSPACE?", even if it's neither.
She's too stupid to use a computer. She doesn't even know where the start menu is, or how to right click. And there's nothing that she does that I can interrupt like that... :saddowns:

"There's a program that runs it. Anyways, all the virus comes from exes and dlls. Windows is very cheap and low tech comparing to macs" Copy and pasted. I nearly hit my fucking keyboard.
There is always a way to piss someone off.
"Is that Make-up in your face or are you playing dead?", "is that just Gordon Freeman or do i have to warn him about your IQ?", "what are you eating?" and "is that FRIENDS you're watching? there's a FRIENDS logo right there, is it?"
Alright in 18 posts I'll create the next thread alright? and i'll see you at the next thread in Hardware and Software
I might actually make the thread myself, if you don't mind waiting til the next one. I know you asked and I said you could, but given I've reached mod status it might make the OP's list of rules a little more convincing to read. :v: Also, welcome to the party B1NARY :buddy: ...and if we named the thread 'mac vs pc 2010' I think everyone would think it's just some stupid mac v pc debate and post accordingly or ignore it. [release]Computer illiterate people who think they know things v4: is it plugged in yet?[/release] ?
More like, Spend $400 on a technician to find out it wasn't plugged in.
I was thinking of: Computer Illiterate People Who Think They Know Things [v4]: Where can I download more RAM?
I nominate Computer Illiterate People Who Think They Know Things [v4]: The 'puter broke so I threw it out
I nominate Computer Illiterate People Who Think They Know Things [v4]: The 'puter broke so I threw it out
The screen went black so we bought a new computer. :gonk:
