Well he has nothing to lose, and he's crazy enough I'm worried he'd take it to the next level.

Just learned that my uncle is going to die within the next month due to organ failure.
One of the first people to ever hold me, pretty much fathered my mother since she was 9, and also let my mother and I come into his home to live there so that we weren't homeless. His wife died about 9 years ago, too. I didn't want to lose one of them, and now i'm going to have lost both of them.

Call the cops. Abuse doesn't have to be physical and striking fear via threats constitutes as abuse as shown here:
