Y'know, I don't profess to be all that into superhero comics, but I wish DC would stop embarrassing themselves with their own Cinematic Universe thing. If only for the sole reason that they already [i]have[/i] their counterpart to the MCU and have had it since before the MCU was even a thing: the DCAU. They already pulled off the "self-contained universe in a non-comic medium" thing, and it's long been wrapped-up and they don't need to do it again. Plus, it presents a nice stylistic contrast as the more fantastic DC has cartoons while the more grounded Marvel goes live-action. It works. This whole DCCU thing is just... sad. Partially because it seems like this whole thing has been an attempt to recapture the lightning from The Dark Knight. First they hire Nolan fresh off the trilogy for Man of Steel, and while his grim storytelling style worked wonders for Batman, it's a [i]major[/i] mismatch for Superman's more idealistic tone and made for a flawed film, and yet [i]that's[/i] what they decide to start the DCCU from. Then they immediately bring back Batman despite Rises still being fresh in everyone's minds, as well as Joker, and [i]that[/i] bit's especially sad because while I think they're expecting to ride the popularity of the late Heath Ledger's incarnation - arguably the biggest knockout of the Nolan trilogy - this new incarnation and his film look like it can be summed up as "Tumblr: The Movie". It's just... I don't know what they expect to accomplish. Again, I'm not big on comic books by any means - ask my sister if you want someone to talk to about that - but I really enjoy the MCU, especially [i]because[/i] you don't have to be mired in those decades of canon to keep up. Hell, I just got done watching this week's episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (excellent show, by the way.) But I look over and I'm like, "DC, what are you doing?"

I hope that the DCCU turns out some good films (a good Wonder Woman film at least), and at the very least I can trust Jason Momoa will be a badass Aquaman. But if it does ends up being trash, at least the DC TV universe is pretty great atm, The Flash in particular.
