Sorta.
OpenTTD is an opensource clone of Transport Tycoon Deluxe, hence the name. Attempts to make a sequel ended up as a theme park game, Rollercoaster Tycoon, running on a modified TTD's engine. OpenTTD is still fundamentally different to both in that its codebase is an interpretation of TTD's raw assembly code into C++ for ease of development.
Speaking of which, Mashinky, a spiritual sequel to TTD, is coming out October 10.

Paradox games in general tend to be pretty laid back if you can get into them. Moreso once you've managed to get through the layers of bloat the dlcs sometimes add. Whenever I play stellaris I usually have YouTube playing and sometimes I even paint models at the same time.
