The idea of magic is that it's [B]invocational [/B]- you call upon the spirits or whoever to give you power and do magical things for you. Moses got his power from God, whereas other magicians got their power from demons or other fiendish powers. Heck, even Jesus was suspected of [url=http://bible.cc/matthew/9-34.htm]performing his miracles with the help of Satan[/url].
Some other fantasies work with [B]incantational[/B] magic - the idea that the fabric of the universe has these magical properties that can be invoked by saying certain phrases. This is a different thing all together. AFAIK this is the Lord of the Rings style of magic.
I am often surprised by the biblical knowledge of Facepunchers, mostly due to it being overwhelmingly incorrect, but not in this instance.

What about magic that just works, without invoking or incantations? What's that called? Inherent magic?
For the life of me I cannot think of a good example. Maybe Artemis Fowl magic?

I guess that would be more along the lines of incantational - the faeries are magical because that's how the world works. Humans aren't because they aren't in touch with that magical stuff.

The greatest blunder of the nonreligious world meeting the religious one is the former asking all of the most irrelevant questions.
