Transferring the contents of your bottle of coke to a glass isn't going to improve the taste or make the carbonation last longer. For each vessel the liquid is transferred to, the quality slowly gets worse and worse as it picks up shit from each glass and bottle. Kinda like if you keep resaving a JPG image the quality slowly gets worse and worse so you might as well drink from the source if you aren't sharing it.
You are right about the glass part though, glass bottles are higher quality than plastic bottles and have less of an effect on the taste.

Carbonation is usually what affects the taste, not the container. Without it the drink is just [del]sugar[/del] high fructose corn syrup and water.
When you pour shit into a cup you give the soda more surface area as it is pouring so more CO[SUP]2[/SUP] escapes from the solution as there are more points of exit. You also lose the gas faster when your soda container has a wider hole, which is why even on liter soda bottles the hole is about the size of a quarter. If you ever buy tea in bulk, the hole is bigger because there's no carbonation to lose so you can pour easier and still maintain the taste.
You can also preserve the taste of your soda by crushing the part of the bottle that's filled with air, as you decrease the amount of room the gas has to escape.
