Swedish is pretty simple. If most swedes have an easy time learning english then I suppose most english people should have an easy time learning swedish.
English is probably harder than Swedish from what I can tell. Of course, learning a language growing up, surrounded by it is a complete different ball game.
Really? This is why you shouldn't learn off the internet.
Wikipedia is always right
Swedish used to have genders, it barely does anymore though, it has evolved so much.

"Oh you stupid faggot, Dutch is easy"
All the dutch kids except for one are dicks.
But on a side note, Pronunciations are easy to learn even if they are hard, just practice.
Dutch is easy to speak but there are like 4 million grammar rules per sentence.
Maybe the hardest part is the pronunciations. The grammar and whatnot is pretty easy, i guess.
no. it's all easy.
I thought Russian was easy

Then again I'm lying and don't actually know Russian

How'd you know?
English, along with Dutch and German, is a West Germanic language.
Swedish, along with Norwegian and Danish, is North Germanic.
Both French and Spanish is from the Italian/Latin family so technically, they should be harder to learn.
I don't think Swedish would be that hard. Sure, we have some special pronunciations, different grammatic rules, and 3 more characters in our alphabet but the core things are the same. Like how sentences are built etc.
Probably.
Pretty much all languages are hard to learn with an English nativity because English isn't really related to any other language. Like, if you knew Spanish, it'd be relatively easy to learn Italian because they're closely related. English, however, is if you took a bunch of different languages and threw them in a blender and started speaking the outcome.
Holy cow you're wrong. England was conquered over and over again in the dark ages. Thus resulting in the introduction of latin and greek(Mathematics, biology etc), german(kindergarten etc) and a hell of a lot of scandinavic and french.
I figure since Facepunch has a lot of different nationalities, this would be a good place to ask this.
Can anyone who originally speaks English that learned Swedish tell me if it was really difficult? Such as learning proper pronunciation and writing the language? Or to any native Swedish speakers, was it difficult to learn English?
It's neither hard or easy, I'm 17 years old and I've studied English for 8 years... If you read English alot (on the internet, for example), for a long period of time, it comes naturally to you. If you want to learn Swedish, then a 1-hour course per week won't help you with anything, if it's not complemented by private studies, like reading from a Swedish newspaper or watching Swedish news. So, learning a new language takes a lot of effort if you want to speak it decently, be prepared for that.
Dont be silly.
Its obviously French.
Besides, Dutch is one of the hardest languages in the world to learn.
My dad can speak Dutch and German. Said he used to get the two mixed up all the time when he was still in school, and they wouldn't let them go to the toilet unless they could articulate it in Dutch :v:
I dunno, languages were always pretty difficult for me, but then I'm slow in the head compared with most people.
