But hey who cares adventure time is for kids and I love it and so are pixar movies and cartoons. You really shouldn't care this much about what others watch.

The difference is that Pixar actually has heartwarming stories made for all ages in their movies. It's not like they were targeting little girls like MLP.

There are three types of cartoons out there nowadays:
1 - Appeals to specific demographics, and doesn't go outside of those demographics (MLP)
2 - Appeals to both kids and adults, usually through more adult-themed jokes so parents can get some laughs out of it when they have to watch it with their kids (Spongebob, Fairly Odd Parents, Adventure Time)
3 - Tries its best to appeal to all demographics, through broader experiences like having to let go of childish things, following your dreams, etc. (Pixar/Disney)

Did you know that criminals that serve years in jail actually like to read Donald Duck? If there's a chance to get magazines or books to read, they go and read those. They get up during mornings and watch children cartoons because they're in a rough spot and just want to watch something that gives their mind peace for a moment. Same thing with MLP. It's not always manchildren obsessing over kid cartoons, it could be just someone's respite from everyday life should it be difficult.

1, Reminds them of childhood cartoons, because it's done by old cartoon artist/voiceactors/writers
2, They only watch it so they can be "different" and to be accepted by a group or whatever
