In my experience the people hating on fandoms are more annoying than the fandoms themselves. It's kind of ironic when some guy spends more time hating furries/MLP/Homestuck/anime/anything else than the person he's attacking does appreciating whatever he likes.
Only exception is the vocal minority within the MLP fandom that pushes it down your throat and throws a tantrum if you even say "I personally don't find it that entertaining at all"

I was saying there is no difference between Halloween and copslaying. Most people make there own costume which means it costs little to nothing and I have seen some really amazing cosplays.

Now when I got back, nearly all the gamers quickly noticed me (doesn't help I have a ghost recon collectors edition shirt heh) and started talking to me about these games as if they were the greatest shit ever. Sad part is I actually like all these games... well, I'm not a fan of CoD, GTA 4 kinda ruined it for me, and I don't buy expansions for P2P games so I haven't played WoW in ages... but again, these are not the only games in existence. In an effort to broaden their horizons I showed these guys (and girls) Mount & Blade, Battlefield series, Doom on the Skulltag engine, Sword of the Stars, a few other games. I actually got most of them playing these games (and for that matter playing PC games) and it changed everything... for a while. Unfortunately they started to fanboy all those games instead... they didn't learn anything. I think the fandom shit has nothing to do with a specific media or lifestyle or anything, and everything to do with dumbasses jumping on bandwagons and taking shit WAY too far. People want to belong to something and so they take what should be just a friendly community and turn it into an us-or-them mentality, close it off, and start excluding people who don't share their retarded values. Every one of these communities starts nice and ends like the rest, with people not knowing what's going being called some variant of "noob" and the community lacking the "love and tolerance" it had in the beginning. Valve is not infallible, and I really would refrain from holding them up as a godsend to gaming. Remember, Steam is as restrictive as it is helpful (for example, you still can't trade or sell PC games). Oh, and you have to admit you can't even place half the blame on the PC gamers. Every 2 weeks another fucking tool opens a "PC GAMING IS DYING" thread in GGD thinking he's some sort of market analyst and then PC gamers nail him to the wall, but a few retarded console gamers feel threatened by this and lash out in the thread. Then the PC gamers who don't know well enough to just let it die reply and it turns into a retarded flamewar. They really should just ban anyone who starts a thread like that, it has already been refuted 100 times anyway.

Well, for one, the show is called "Friendship is Magic". I'm pretty sure that in order to attain friendship, you have to learn to tolerate other people.
