I only use them for meaningless things like being shiny, or small.
no invincibility or infinite ammo...that's for retards that didn't do boot camp correctly.
Ninja Gaiden II on Path of the Warrior is a great challenge; it's not impossible like Touhou or whatever, and offers a great feeling of satisfaction when you learn to chain combos and actually take down gajillions of enemies.

Not sure if this was the hardest for me, but the original Mercenaries for the xbox was pretty damn hard on the ace levels. Maybe because I was around 10 when I was playing it.
