IMO Blue Gender probably has the more "realistic" portrayal of mechs.
Thanks, I needed a laugh.
Thanks, I needed a laugh.
have you ever actually watched the series or are you making judgments off the 3 terrible photos I posted? also,
"realistic"

Yeah thats not entirely true. Anything with mechanical legs is just going to be a burden on a military, unless it's less than 2 meters tall but at that point it's more of an exoskeleton than a mech. Once a leg on a mech is disabled, thats it; game over. It can't maneuver anymore and it just becomes a sitting duck. It's going to have a taller profile than a normal tank so it's going to be much easier to hit as well. A mech, like any tank, would perform worse in an urban environment. The advantage of an urban area is that you can fit infantry into every nook and cranny and the streets become kill-zones and no mans lands. Because of that, any vehicles that try and cross through are just going to get pegged by AT rockets and IED's. Trying to walk a 7-20 foot tall tank down a kill zone is absolute suicide, just like it would be to drive a tank down that street. Thats one of the issues for the Syrian military right now, is that they're trying to blitz into a city center and then they get pegged by RPG's and IED's on all sides.
but surely the agility of a human-like mech would be worth something? i mean, tanks are obviously effective against infantry and other tanks, but neither of those is able to move as fast as a 15-25 ft mech, assuming it moved as fast as a human of its size. i think that, in a tanks vs mechs battle (if you're including infantry on the tanks' side, might as well do it for the mechs too), the mechs could definitely have a chance depending on where the fight takes place
but surely the agility of a human-like mech would be worth something? i mean, tanks are obviously effective against infantry and other tanks, but neither of those is able to move as fast as a 15-25 ft mech, assuming it moved as fast as a human of its size. i think that, in a tanks vs mechs battle (if you're including infantry on the tanks' side, might as well do it for the mechs too), the mechs could definitely have a chance depending on where the fight takes place
A modern MBT can go around 30-40mph depending if it's on road or off road. If an mech wants to have any sort of survivability on the battlefield, it's going to need several tons worth of armor. Because of that, it's not going to be able to move very fast, especially on shit terrain because it's constantly going to be stumbling, falling over, and having to zig zag to avoid impassible terrain for a 30 foot tall biped. So I doubt it would be able to keep up with a tracked vehicle which can easily traverse shit terrain. Because of it's extremely large profile, a mech would be the first thing to get picked off in a battle since it's not going to be able to go hull down on normal terrain. It's going to get it's ass kicked because it will get picked off by ground attack aircraft before it even reaches the battlefield, and if it somehow makes it within 5 miles of an actual battlefield, it's going to get picked off by 120mm HEAT shells and ATGM's from 2 miles away because they're tall, wide, and easy to see. If mechs had a place on the battlefield, militaries around the world would have invested in them by now. They're not viable in the slightest for modern ground combat
alright that makes enough sense i guess i'm investing all of my life savings into an exoskeleton then

Something seems way off in this picture.
Enough of the chat, christ. This is a thread for photos
have you ever actually watched the series or are you making judgments off the 3 terrible photos I posted? also,
Watch Votoms or Fang Of The Sun Dougram, then get back to me. [editline]5th December 2013[/editline] Or Gasaraki. Although those mechs are powered by fucking demons so they're "realistic" in every respect but their power source. [editline]5th December 2013[/editline] Oh, Blue Gender was created by the same director as those series. Well, I can hold their portrayal to similar standards in all but mech design, then.
Something seems way off in this picture.
There are 2 planes of focus, one on the zebra in the foreground and one on the sky in the background. Somehow the space between them is blurry. This is not how cameras work. I have the feeling that you already knew this.
It's unlikely to be jungle. America refused to put Japanese-Americans in the Pacific. More likely to be muddy Europe
They're most likely either rear-line supply troops, like African-Americans were, or it was a propaganda photo they put out when everyone criticized the US for the internment camps. [editline]5th December 2013[/editline] Could also be non-Japanese Asian-Americans. I'm just betting more on it being in the pacific cause I don't ever recall seeing a jeep with a "wire cutter" on the front of it like that in Europe.

Ugh, those pictures are awesome. I've always wanted to visit one of the little Himalayan nations, particularly Tibet. (it's independent in my heart, dammit!) [editline]5th December 2013[/editline]
full photo set http://www.beforethey.com/tribe/ladakhi
that last picture in the post is definitely in Tibet. It's Potala palace.
