From what I know about my Grandfather's duties over in the Pacific (as related to me by several relatives, including my Grandmother), one of them was to serve as a bodyguard for the Japanese-American troops deployed there since many of the others would beat them.
I wish I'd gotten to meet my grandfather and confirm from a 1st party source a lot of the stories, though all the ones I've been told are agreed upon as accurate by all of my relatives that did here them directly from him. Somewhere I have a really old book of some sort that's all in Japanese and bound with ribbon, someone told me it was some sort of propaganda distributed to the Japanese people, but since I don't read the language, I have no clue.
