It's a pretty stupid sentiment really. As bad as it sounds, the world revolves around money, so it's best to acquire it.

It's an ideology, not a command. You do what you need to do, but don't forget what the real end goal is.
But what if I don't know what I want to do with my life?
Then make money in the meantime.
The key, rather obviously, is balance.
I always see the risky stuff to do as something after you've got yourself a stable job/fallback plan. Let's say I wanted to become a writer. I'm not going to do the starving artist thing, I'm going to get a regular job and only start working as a writer full time after I've made sure it's economically stable.
I would be perfectly happy playing video games for a living.
and then I realized that's actually a thing.
