This originally is a 110 Mb Shot taken by me and the only panorama I've ever seen taken from the INSIDE of the Room of the mysteries in the Villa Of The Mysteries in Pompeji. I had this opportunity since I was working there, sorry it's not very spectacular or clean but I had to do work there. Had to scale it down because of Flickr Villa dei Misteri von Terranigmus auf Flickr
Most people do. TV and movies now are pretty much built around green screens and CGI nowadays. It's a lot cheaper to do that than it is to build the actual props and stuff or change locations. All you need is a green sheet and a CG artist to make a backlot behind universal look like the top of the empire state building, or the steps to the Lincoln memorial. And it's also better to replace actors with CG, lest you want a Zombie drinking a water bottle, like in the walking dead
I recall from The Making of Jurassic Park it was it was one of the modellers or possibly even Speilberg himself who feared that in the future a lot of entertainment would be click-and-drag CGI productions. It's terrifying just how correct that ended up being.

Compare space battles from the original star wars and the remakes. Hate on the remakes all you want, but the beginning space battle from episode 3 looks a hell of a lot better than the climax of episode 6. I will admit though that the original special effects on the original star wars movies do have a nice charm to them.

I am more amazed at the fact that the tiger was intelligent enough to focus on the human, rather than the elephant he is riding.
I always felt that people concerned with the "look" of the movie and special effects really miss the point of the movies.
The way a movie conveys a story is only going to be enhanced by looking better, unless its some artistic abstract bullshit thats meant to look awful. If you went back to the silent film era and showed them how to enhance their special effects with CGI, I bet the people splicing together film reals and editing the film by hand frame by frame would consider you to be gods.
I'm more amazed there's a guy riding an elephant
Elephant riding is incredibly common in Asia, isn't it?

It still looks fake and separate from anything that's real. The thing about the new Star Wars movies is the entire scenes and sets were CGI. Almost every god damn bit of it. The acting suffered because of it, too. There's differences in small things like motion blur between what's real and conventional and what's CGI that disconnect it, no matter how good the CGI is I want CGI to go back to how it was in the late 90's, and used to enhance a scene. Not create it That scene where the X wing's fall into the Deathstar Trench in first person? That was an actual model, and the camera was moved through it, and it looked great, and still looks great by today's standards 35 years later. No matter how good the CGI is in film it won't look as good as a real model because the model is real
Some people think CGI look better than actual models. It doesn't. It still looks fake and separate from anything that's real.
Just because it doesn't look perfect it doesn't mean it's not better. The thing with what you're saying is that not every scene can be done with models and then enhanced with CGI, like anything in Pacific Rim or the new Godzilla movie, as well as half the scenes in any new superhero movie. Don't get me wrong, I agree with you, I just don't think that it applies to everything. Also, one thing I don't understand is how some people can defend that animatronics should always be used. Sometimes, for some stuff, yeah, but it's stupid to think that they'd look as realistic as CGI in most cases. The way I see it, most of the time, CGI bashing comes either from people whose judgement is clouded by nostalgia (James Rolfe for example), or from people wanting to go back to an era they weren't even a part of (aka "wow everything was so much better in the 80s I wish I was born back then and not now in this shitty generation")

The only model that was actually in that scene was a husk of a Huey and the actual actor stumbling through the lot. Most people didn't/don't realize that it was all CG, and even most of us who have pretty good eyes for stuff like that, didn't know it was fake until they saw that. Unless you sit and stare at a scene for a good few minutes, you won't notice whats CG and what isn't, unless it's a movie like Pacific Rim which is built around CG. I will agree to the episde 1-3 argument though.

Jesus look how huge this crocodile is, it still boggles my mind that there are reptiles bigger than us that can easily gobble us up, like that thing is easily twice as big as that dude. Makes dinosaurs even more terrifying, yet amazing at the same time. Also this guy seems to be trying to become a Darwin Award recipient. On a smaller scale though CGI is also used for removing camera dolly tracks and reflections of crew members/equipment.

yes, HD tags are nice for some videos. I thought it had nice visuals and would go nicely. I don't really see a problem with it seeing as how literally everything has a 1920x1080 screen.
The following are pictures of ritual dresses from areas of europe where timeless pagan traditions are still upheld.
