What happens in Ukraine is probably going to effect the rest of the world.

i thought this was worth sharing some of the 40k book covers are real boss looking
I wished they had some sort of book/art book/comic/movie made entirely in this style. It would had been so fucking good. That ultramarines movie was fucking terrible.
I think that's only the second time I've ever seen a normal, run-of-the-mill civilian in any W40k thing ever. Wouldn't really expect to see civies living in perma-molten housing on dead worlds. Go figure.
speaking of WH40k and artbooks, i recall some complaining that the clusterfuck battle scene art gets old p fast. so i found these scans of the official "Horus Heresy" artbook, containing lots of related sketches and artwork. this stuff is pretty old, so it's all real and hand-painted without digital techniques, and thus very, very grimdark and very beautiful i believe these are from the time when they were first fleshing out the background of the setting absolutely yes, because it's the way i always post pictures. i don't own a gigantic 1920x1800 (or whatever is the modern standard everyone should have) monitor and have thus never even considered putting pictures in a forum post next to eachother because they always automatically stack anyway however since this is such a huge issue i'll go back and reformat the post for easier viewing [editline]4th March 2014[/editline] it's done, you and MenteR can get your panties out of the knot now
i don't own a gigantic 1920x1800 (or whatever is the modern standard everyone should have) monitor
You're thinking of 1920x1080, which is pretty much the standard non-shit monitor resolution, or maybe 1920x1200 which is a bit more obscure since it's 16:10. The former can be found for about $150 in a 21"-23" monitor, or in a fair number of laptops, tablets and even phones. "Gigantic" monitors these days are 2560x1440, 2560x1600 or 3840x2160.
Would that even be effective
Those are fucking nuggets, they'll punch straight through the planes bomb bay, detonate the payload, pass through the crew rectum to cranium and then ascend to the heavens and kill god. But because the shooters are lying on their backs, the recoil will cause the stock to shear through the shoulder, severing the arm and become lodged in the soil beneath. That's why they have so many
I'm pretty sure it's because they're actually cheaper to make than a large 1080p panel
I'm pretty sure it's because a large 1080p panel on a phone wouldn't be practical
well yeah my standard "non-shit" monitor resolutions so far have been 1280 x 1024 and 1366 x 768 and everything else is superbig thank you. just when did monitors get this humongous? 1600x1200 was big just a few years ago
Two things - first, the ubiquity of HDTVs, then the explosion in DPI in smartphones. The defined HDTV resolutions were 1280x720 and 1920x1080 (720p and 1080p, respectively). Before that, the most common resolution had been 1024x768 (XGA), so 720p wasn't really an upgrade. 1366x768 took the XGA resolution and made it 16:9 instead of 4:3, and it could fit 720p content inside it. So 1366x768 became the "low-end" resolution, and 1920x1080 became the "high-end". 2560x1440 (1440p) is four times the resolution of 1280x720, so it started as an ultra-high-end. There were also 16:10 versions of each (I've seen 1280x800, 1920x1200 and 2560x1600, there might be 1366x850 displays out there but I doubt it), which were used more professionally since vertical pixels matter a lot more there. And there were some intermediate ones, like 1600x900. That was about five or six years ago. Once smartphones took off, especially with Apple's "Retina Display" push, people started demanding higher resolutions. 1366x768 dropped to being the bottom end - I don't think they even make monitors in it anymore, just TVs and laptops. And it's really only tolerable in 11" or smaller screens. The most common advice I see given to people asking about which laptop to get is "make sure it's not 1366x768". It really isn't just me saying this - it's a pretty commonly opinion. That made 1080p the new common-man's monitor. They're cheap because there's so many being made, and they don't require weird connectors the way higher-resolutions do (1920x1200, 60Hz, 24-bit color is the max you can get with single-link DVI or with HDMI 1.3). 1440p has started to become more accessible - a cheap one is $400-500, and even pro-grade ones are under $1000. 3840x2160 (2160p, falsely called "4K" by marketers) is starting to become the new ultra-high end - you can't find one that's still 60Hz for under $1000 yet AFAIK, but there's a few announced for sub-kilodollar prices that should be out this year.
Everyone's talking about 1080p being the non-crap standard for monitors, and yet here I am enjoying my apparently-crap 1366x768 desktop monitor, which I got with a crap computer years ago for like $300 as a bundle at Walmart. Kept it ever since then. It might just be because I'm the technological equivalent of a caveman, but this monitor has always been big enough for my liking. I'd gladly get a bigger one if it were possible for me to do so, mind you, but I'm not exactly bothered by my current one. It's so fun not having enough money to have even bog-standard tech, and having whatever cash you do have being sucked out by everything else that needs to be paid. I still don't comprehend how people have enough spare cash to blow on big fancy monitors and twin graphics cards and such, but that might just be because both me and my family have been in somewhat-crappy financial states since God was a fetus. [editline]computers[/editline] On a related note, the last time I tried to plug in a bigger monitor into my desktop, it somehow rendered the port it was plugged into unusable. No broken pins, nothing noticeably broken with the monitor itself. The port on the desktop just flat out refused to work with any monitors ever again. I still have no fucking clue how that works, but I'm deathly afraid of fiddling with any new technology as a result of this incident and many others.
Meanwhile my resolution is 1152x864.
I had some crazy Chinese magical 1368x900 monitora a while ago. Crazy, crazy thing. Click on the upper right panel and have a scroll to have a look at a CT head. You might also want to try the contrast changer, it's actually possible to whiten it a bit and make the soft tissue a bit more visible.
I am currently using a 160 x 144 px gameboy screen to browse this.
Would that even be effective
Purely depends on the type of aircraft they're firing at. I have no idea what year the image was taken, but if they were to be firing at a low flying helicopter, then odds are a bullet or two would hit something important, or even the pilot. I have heard of some German dive bombers and fighters occasionally being shot down by either stray or purposely fired bullets from infantry when they were flying low enough. One man firing at a plane would have to have incredible luck to do any damage other than scratch the paint, at best, but with a number of men firing like in the image, the chances of doing something is at least higher, if not definite.

If they were flying low and straight, I can see that working - the lead time would be too much if they were high and/or diving.
