I saw some of those the other day, they're pretty cheap. They take a few minutes to open back up.
I almost left with one of them but I had to do something else.
Carnivorous plant, of course

Nope
It is not known exactly why Mimosa pudica evolved this trait, but many scientists think that the plant uses its ability to shrink as a defense from predators. Animals may be afraid of a fast moving plant and would rather eat a less active one. Another possible explanation is that the sudden movement dislodges harmful insects.

That's one of the wrecks near the Salar de Uyuni, the biggest salt lake in the world. Why is this place so amazing? When the lake holds water, it turn into the largest mirror in earth:

For me it's one of the most beautiful and interesting places I've ever heard of.

This is probably what happens if you give an animator enough drugs to kill a small elephant.

But that's not CGI. It's mostly animatronics:

Animatronics I think will always look more realistic than CGI.
You can do a lot with CGI, but in 5 years time, you'll see how fake it is compared to newer movies.

Woah, never realized the exhaust plume was that wide at that altitude, read about it in a book on V-2 rockets, that they needed to design it a certain way to prevent that plume from damaging the side fins, never thought it got that wide though.

The franchise as a whole has some of the best special effects I've seen on TV. Too bad SGU was cancelled, I just recently got into it and I'm actually enjoying it, halfway through the second season now. It feels like it had some big potential, it just took too long to build up to it.
I kinda wish they'd make a proper sequel to the original movie.

I honesty didn't like the original movie, though I can commend it for starting SG-1

People of this thread ought to really like it, since it's a great animation full of psychological stuff etc
Paprika seems like a good movie to go "hnnnng that animation" over. I need to get around to watching it.

As an aside, the first two gifs are super-sped up. It took a Saturn V more than 12 seconds to clear the tower. Because it was that fucking big.
