Boom
I've always been really fascinated by the way these things look when they light up. Being anywhere near something like that, with the roaring, flash, and immense fireball they make piercing the sky would be absolutely terrifying, these things have a kind of power to me that was never meant to be controlled by people. One thing that always intrigues me are those grey rings that always appear around the explosion, can someone tell me what causes those exactly, like what are they? Is it moisture in the atmosphere becoming vapor from the convection and being pushed away or something like that?

The thing about the "depressing eastern block" areas is that the pictures are never taken in spring or summer and that makes it a bit suspicious to me.
When the weather is nice it can get really cozy with all that green everywhere. A few pics from before the war in Afghanistan starting in the 80's. it's disgusting to see how far back in time afghanistan has went
it's disgusting to see how far back in time afghanistan has went
Clearly we need to invade them to gain the secrets of time travel.
it's disgusting to see how far back in time afghanistan has went
Easy reason why. Russia invaded in the 80s, and the Taliban, the religious extremist movement in power today, gained popular support by rising to take them out. It wasn't long before they were given power that they decided to destroy the last vestiges of freedom in the country in favour of theocratic tyranny. Then the US invaded in the 21st century, and any hope Afghanistan had of throwing off its oppressive yoke was destroyed again, dooming the country and its people to decades more of subjugation.

Fun fact: Kabul had electric tram lines in the 80s.. kinda like San Francisco.
Fun fact: Kabul had electric tram lines in the 80s.. kinda like San Francisco.
Afghanistan was a very modern country prior to the US and Soviet intervening. Women and children were wearing western clothes, going to school and university and they could go outside without a male having to attend to them. all that was done away with because Russia wanted another puppet state to add to it's collection and the US didn't want that.
One point to be made though; US sponsorized the mujahedeen(including bin laden at the time, before the creation of alqaeda) against the soviets. They aren't in power though, as archangel stated. The talibans are simply a pawn wich shifts allegiance depending on the circumstances; right now they oppose the nato intervention. The talibans are born in Afghanistan aren't they? So they want to apply their politics and ideology to their mother country, whereas the nato wants that too. That's where the confict spurs from. I'm backing the nato on this one,and even though they might not realize, even the talibans want a progressive, open and free society too. They just belive that foreign intervention won't do that. They want a reform from inside out, not from the outside in, and perhaps ego plays a part in that too. They want change on their terms.I hope an agreement could be settled though... Btw I think the strategic importance of Afghanistan is often underrated. It's the physical meeting point of China,India,Iran and Russia.Through NATO's naval dominance of all seas and through it's close alliance with Pakistan, it too converges in this point. You'd think the time when the UK fucked up the region down there would've tought us anything. I mean come on pretty much every modern day problem in the region stems from the fact that some rich white dudes decided to have borders that follow nice geometry and geography rather than social/tribal/historic guidelines after WW2. [editline]13th April 2014[/editline] Same for Africa, look at how straight the borders are, war is pretty much programmed.
FAL being fired after freezing in snow overnight.
Some guns are made stupidly reliable to the point where they can be cryogenic frozen and still fire.
