Yeah, was just about to post this. It was a huge mine with the purpose of making a crater for the British to occupy during the battle, like a quickly made foxhole. It made what was considered the loudest man-made sound ever made up to that point.
Sure, according to Karen Traviss who quit writing Star Wars EU because she directly told by her editor told to turn the Mary Sue rating of Mandalorians to something realistic, like you know, being able to die and stuff instead of always winning the everything ever through "cause Traviss said so".

Like I said a few posts above, Its lochnagar Mine. It was detonated at the start of the Battle of the Somme.
Aren't 2 of the undetonated mines still unaccounted for?
Aren't 2 of the undetonated mines still unaccounted for?
Afaik there are a couple. but there are countless numbers of un detonated bombs and such that have been left over since both WW1 and 2 that are still dotted around the French countryside.

Anyone got that bullet diagram laying around, the one with it showing the effects of a bullet/shrapnel both intact and in lots of pieces against a cut away of some legs.
Got someone I need to show it to and every google result is something to do with JFK or Dinosaurs...
The Battle of Messines had a very large explosion that killed 10,000 German soldiers
And here is what the crater looks like today, with people for comparison
Special Royal Engineers tunneling companies were created for the task of laying mines. Basically they'd just build a tunnel under the German lines, stuff it with explosives, and then they would leave it there to be detonated when offensives were launched.

Well I just found this out about Texas City:
Meanwhile, the fire had attracted a crowd of spectators along the shoreline, who believed they were a safe distance away.[4] Eventually, the ship's hatches were blown open from the steam pressure inside and yellow-orange smoke billowed out, the color that is produced when nitrogen oxide is burnt.[5] The unusual color of the smoke attracted even more spectators. Spectators also noted that the water around the docked ship was already boiling from the heat, and the splashing water touching the hull of the ship was vaporized into steam. The cargo hold and deck began to bulge as the pressure of the steam increased inside.
Russian ammunition wound canals

Shaded areas are permanent, non-shaded areas are the temporary where the flesh flexes back and forth and rips itself apart. If any organs get caught in either canal, they're pretty much gone.
I don't have the diagram of the leg wound when it's hit by a 5.56 or shrapnel, but I do have this NSFW link of what it looks like when a leg gets hit by a 5.56x45mm out of a 20 inch M-16 barrel at a range of less than 50 meters.
