Almost would have been worth it though. Gotta ask yourself the question of whether or not 7 decades of wars and proxy wars would create a higher death toll than a few dozen atomic bombs over the course of a year or two.
Has there been any recent good WW2 movies?

This.
A lot of people died in proxy wars and genocide from the USSR after WW2

Honestly, seeing how fast Japan capitulated after two nukes I doubt it would have been much.

Theres a German 3-part series called "Our Mothers, Our Fathers"/"Unsere Mütter, unsere Väter" thats absolutely excellent. "Into the White" is also pretty good, and that new Russian movie "Stalingrad" just got a US release recently, but prepare for a incredibly skewed view of the war.
[editline]23rd May 2014[/editline]
Theres also "The Railway Man" that got a release over in the US and is getting a Christmas re-release in theaters. Great book too

Covering the world in intense radiation, affecting even neutral country populations, would definitely be more than the few proxy wars we had over the years.
The Korean conflict had roughly 2 million casualties.
Vietnam had roughly the same, 2 million.
World War II had 60 million dead. An atomic war between the US and the Soviets right after would do nothing but, at best, nearly triple that.
Don't be stupid, the proxy wars were definitely small time compared to a nuclear war, even in the 40s.

I don't see Stalin submitting unless he was killed himself. He had just defeated the Nazis from the brink of disaster. Even with an American super weapon, he wouldn't give up after that.

Except the USSR didn't have a nuclear bomb until 1949.

The US had hundred of nukes in 1949.

Unsere Mütter Unsere Väter is a pretty good 3 part mini-series.
Right, but thats because Fascism was a great threat to any of us than Communism was; they bought some of our shitty M4's and B-25's, and in exchange we covered up a few of their mass murders and mass rapes against the Polish.
Funnily enough the Soviets actually liked the Sherman simply because it was way less cramped than the T-34. And also the Sherman wasn't that shitty. The ammo cook problem thing that people keep bringing up was fixed with wet stowage, reducing the chance of ammo burning significantly. This change was introduced in early-1944 on late production M4A3's. There were also field modifications to turn dry stowage Shermans to wet. Pretty much every model after had the wet stowage (M4A3E8, the M4A2, etc). The Soviets also received models with wet stowage.

Gasoline engines burning the crews alive was more common of a problem than ammo cookoff. Which they never really fixed.

Actually gasoline engines burning weren't that big of a problem. Ammo cookoff's were much more common and way deadlier than engine fires. Most tankers reported fierce, blinding jets of flame, which isn't what happens when gasoline gets set on fire. And most of the time the fuel was found intact after a fire.
Were there more than one? President doesn't fly without decoys. Two Marine Ones, two Air Force Ones, two limos, etc. Could be someone else high up in the administration.
I was trying to get into the US embassy in Rome a long while ago, forgetting that the G8 was taking place in Italy that year, and negleted to notice that Obama was arriving that day. They turned me away because I had a backpack with me, and then his convoy left the embassy compound and I realized what was going on. There were at least two decoys, probably more, and the convoy moved so fast I barely I had time to register it. There were helicopters orbiting so close you could feel the rotors in your gut.
[editline]23rd May 2014[/editline]
I'm probably on a list because of the backpack thing
This is Obamas convoy between Grand Hotel and Sagerska huset, a trip that isn't more than a couple of hundred meters, in Stockholm when he was here last year. If I recall correctly he was in the second black car.
Also, notice the tough guy infront of me.

The Soviets also liked the P-39 and it was a colossal piece of shit. The only reason they liked American stuff was because it was built with decent build quality and had crew comforts Politburo engineers didn't see as necessary. The M4's were roomy by normal tank standards and the P-39's had closed cockpits and cabin heat which your I-16 or I-15 did not have. Other than that, the P-39 and M4's were absolutely awful on all fronts but the Soviets liked them because they were marginally better than what the Soviets were fielding at the time.
The only real advantage the M4 had was a higher top speed (due to it's absolute lack of armor and armament) and the numbers at which they could be built.
