That is ridiculously well organised. Every festival I've been to has been a free for all.
Roskilde Festival is pretty amazing - it's non-profit, most food you'll buy will support some project somewhere (most are non-profit) as well as being largely organic, and mostly everything is volunteer-run. Being a volunteer means you'll work either at a burger place or whatever or help running the actual festival (which means picking up litter, letting people through the entrances, etc.), but the treat is that you get access to the whole festival "for free". It's a week long (last year was 8 days) with music from Thursday to Sunday (Sunday to Wednesday is basically "play beer bowling with your friends or swim in the lake, etc."-days).
It's very well organized (especially considering that about 130000 people attend the festival though the week), with pretty heavy security measures (the tent squares are there to reduce the risk of fire spreading). Since 2000 and the Pearl Jam tragedy, there's even a "pit" up front where you have to wait in line to get in - this way they know exactly how many people are in there. You can see it in the last picture I posted.
If you like music and festivals, it's definitely worthwhile.

I think this is actually standard practice now, it might even be mandatory.

eh, this one is really weird. the monsters are obviously very different art-style wise from the rest of the picture (which looks like it passed through a filter on photoshop).

Yeah, a lot of festivals changed things up after the Pearl Jam incident, afaik Glastonbury even cancelled completely that year.

Black Rock City exists in the Nevada desert for one week every year. For the other 51 weeks of the year it's an empty desert. No permanent buildings are allowed.

That's what I like about it to be honest. To me it gives some implication of the elderly man reflecting upon his demons, or perhaps sinking into some kind of dementia; with the monsters a mere mental representation, not actually 'there' physically. But that's just me.
