A Roman dodecahedron is a small hollow object made of bronze or stone, with a dodecahedral shape: twelve flat pentagonal faces, each face having a circular hole of varying diameter in the middle, the holes connecting to the hollowed-out center. Roman dodecahedra date from the 2nd or 3rd centuries CE.
About a hundred of these dodecahedra have been found[1] from Wales to Hungary and to the east of Italy, with most found in Germany and France. Ranging from 4 cm to 11 cm in size, they also vary in terms of textures. Most of them are made of bronze but some also seem to be made of stone.
No mention of them has been found in contemporary accounts or pictures of the time. Speculated uses include candlestick holders (wax was found inside one example); dice; survey instruments;[2] devices for determining the optimal sowing date for winter grain;[3] gauges to calibrate water pipes or army standard bases. It has also been suggested that they may have been religious artifacts of some kind. This latter speculation is based on the fact that most of the examples have been found in Gallo-Roman sites.[4][5]
Why exactly is it in black and white?
It was the clearest picture I could find. Also it seems like some people are saying that the picture is fake/photoshop (?) but they may just be those 9/11 conspiracy nutters.

Well, for a picture as simple as that, you gotta realize it's not very hard to fake.
So unless there's a reputable source, many people will not accept it as truth in this day and age. Not because they're conspiracy theorists, but because there are many manipulations around.

There have been several of them, but they never make it more than 3 pages and soon fade away much like the history in them.
I think it's mostly because they're too broad in topic. Just "history" where anyone posts any kind of history. It gets short lived because there's too much to discuss.

Like Scorpious said, theres been many in the past but most don't live long. People post the instant-gratification pictures within the first few pages and then after that everyone leaves the thread because they lose interest. Most people don't give a shit about historical photos unless it's easily recognizable why they're interesting.
I personally kept the "Photos that Shook the World" thread up and running for quite a while, but gave up because I was literally the only person posting in there.

What an awful idea. The big ship couldn't keep a pressurized cabin with the doors open like that and that flying platform is only a good idea if it's being used to transport enemy soldiers to your ship.
How do you know it's a military craft, it looks like some sort of tourism, thrill ride sort of platform to me. Perhaps the ship orbits some alien planet and then sends out a bunch of people on that platform to zoom around and see the sights while also protected by an invisible forcefield.
Took these pics of my dog the other day:

It isn't hard to skip history stuff if it doesn't interest you.

The last 3 or 4 threads I've tried to keep alive are proof otherwise.
