you know it gets intense when the weapons that would be considered WMD's in our warfare are the regular ammunition, and their equivalent of WMD's level the entire fucking system
Let's also remember that their idea of warfare is scaled up such that singular battles occur over the span of several planets and the surrounding space. But at the same time it's true of less violent things as well, with such concepts as interplanetary commerce and communication.
I expect that if we ever gain the ability to travel (the the observer) faster than light, nuclear weapons will become common weapons. The fear of complete extinction no longer applies.
I expect that if we ever gain the ability to travel (the the observer) faster than light, nuclear weapons will become common weapons. The fear of complete extinction no longer applies.
You'd think so, but I kinda agree with the simplicity of w40k's main ship weapon, the macro cannon. It has a variable payload to deal with stuff like shield disruption, HEAT, sabot, etc. These rounds weigh kilotonnes. But weight is only half of the calculation, let's take a torpedo to compare it to, its speed is around 56km/s, our macro cannon shell will travel 5600km/s. A million kilograms traveling at 5,600,000m/s , using the infamous ½mv^2, has around 1.568e+19 Joules of energy. That, in the TNT equivalent scale, is 3.7 gigatons of energy, an averaged, slightly conservative figure. So that's is a single macro cannon firing.... As quoted above, a macro battery can have around 12 individual macro cannons, so a single macro battery will have around 44 gigatons of kinetic energy per salvo. That, arranged in a broadside(which apparently has 6 macro batteries, looking at the supplementary equipment chart), will have 266.4 gigatons per salvo. I don't think they need nukes :v:

How devastated would we be if nukes became common weapons?

Leave it to tumblr to sensationalize the shit out of things.

Especially in the pacific theater.
Oh, good to know. The owner, seen dumping muriatic acid into the pool to get them out (which is a type of hydrochloric acid, and that has a harmfully corrosive reaction when coming into contact with skin, the eyes, organs, etc). Although it's harmless in certain amounts when used in pools, the people were still scared that they'd come to harm (because as we all know, "acid" is almost always misinterpreted as being synonymous with "melt-your-skin-and-your-bones liquid".)
Took a picture of the milky way last night. Not a very good one, but still :v: experiment by kirby2112, on Flickr thought it might belong here

Depends on how dilute it was in the bottle - if it was 30% or higher, it could hurt quite a bit, unless they were smart enough to immediately dunk them and wash it away. I used HCl to scrub concrete off a pool liner once. I don't recall how strong it was, but it was relatively dilute, and it still would cause blisters and stuff if you didn't wash it off.
