I'm criticising the Australian Government, moron.
Oh? it sounded to me as if you were to say that, somehow, these Ethiopians ought to be worse off then the Australians. Like it would have been less ridiculous if the Aussies were better off or the Ethiopians worse off. The trouble is also when you compare Emperor Haile Selassie I's personal retinue of elite bodyguards (numbering a mere 6,000) to the military force of Australia present in Korea at the time (roughly 17,000 men).
It's really ironic how in a couple of years they'd be at each other's throats.
Not really. History is full of allies turning on each other as soon as a mutual enemy is gone or changes position themselves. England was allied with Austria for the longest time against France, then England switched to Prussia and Austria switched to France almost instantly just prior to the Seven Years War.
What I was saying is that the Australian Government should have purchased modern semi-automatic weapons back as far at the early parts of WW2. I have to wonder how many Commonwealth soldiers would be alive if they had modernised.
It's really ironic how in a couple of years they'd be at each other's throats.
There was still a lot of conflicting interest between the US and USSR during world war 2, but it was downplayed because we where busy fighting the Germans. There where problems near immediately after the forces finally met.
There was still a lot of conflicting interest between the US and USSR during world war 2, but it was downplayed because we where busy fighting the Germans. There where problems near immediately after the forces finally met.
I know for a fact that quite a few members of the Western Allies (Churchill and Patton for example) wanted to plough though Germany and take on the Soviets at the end of the war. They hated each other's guts but at the time none of them shared a border with each other so it really didn't matter.
I just don't think the comparison of the UK's Australian combat support levies to Ethiopia's household elite royal guard is that fair in the first place.
I just don't think the comparison of the UK's Australian combat support levies to Ethiopia's household elite royal guard is that fair in the first place.
It is, because those Ethiopians are using shitty surplus WWII US military equipment that were outdated by the time the Korean war ended. Download's point, which you're still missing, is that the Australian military was still severely outdated by 2 wars by the time the Korean war rolled around; so outdated that a small military using surplus from the last war is still more high tech than a large nation like Australia. Quit trying to play this like it has to do with race. That never would have happened but it's an interesting thought and a good basis for some historical fiction.

For one,Hitler would go on to become a painter or w/e because Germany would not be in debt to the winners, or subject to poverty, for one; and nazism/fascism wouldn't have happened. Germany would have gone forward with forming a continental union, simmilar to that we have now, perhaps diplomacy would have taken a course so that France would play a role as a counter-balance. Think about it; long before that, Austro-hungary was build on the same principle. But it's obvious that throughout history, the germans sought to get central-eastern europe into a big bloc... Oh yeah most of this isn't SF or anything like that, there's a bunch of historic reading that you can do on the subject, Pan-europeanism/ continentalism was sought after ever since Napoleon or heck even earlier perhaps...
It's really ironic how in a couple of years they'd be at each other's throats.
I wouldn't say so. Russia and America had ideological disagreements on a fundamental level ever since the Bolshevik Revolution. If I recall, they actually funded the White forces during the Civil War. Politically speaking, the US-USSR alliance during World War II was nothing more than convenience- they were both fighting the Nazis and neither had any huge interest in adding another enemy to the list, so they were allies.
