The boer wars saw more brits die from disease than from the commandos shooting them.
Even ww1 had more people die from spanish flu and infections than straight off injury. The Ottomans lost 10000s of men to cold and disease, men without shoes truding through snow 1000s died over night as they froze in their sleep.
In africa the germans played run around with the brits, in a kind of guerilla campaign, despite barely any combat the brits were beaten by the jungle and disease.
I think even ww2 had a fair amount of diseases and stuff.
Crazy how many people died from silly things like drinking muddy water instead of boiling it first.
I remember reading a book called Tip and Run, it was about a german army in the African campaign during world war 1 that essentially went into hiding, and were discovered and surrendered even after the war had ended.

2 Japanese officers in a newspaper headline. They had a contest going between each other to see who could kill 100 POW's and Civilians with swords first. 1 officer got 106 murders, the other 105. They later hung for this contest, among other crimes, after the war.

It's kind of sad to look at the Finnic languages, as most of them are spoken by a really tiny amount of people, or even close to extinction.
Some of them are crazy in grammar as well, like the Veps language, which has 23 grammatical cases compared to Estonian's 14 and Finnish's 15.

I remember making a promise about visiting the grave of a WW2/1 soldier somewhere in this thread but I got no clue where I did so.
I'm telling this because I'm 15 minutes from the memorial I believe I was planning to go to for a certain person. Do any of you by any chance remember the page so I can find back the name of the person?

Ukrainian volunteers stand near a group of murdered Jews in Warsaw. The German high command was pretty fuckin' smart. They knew that all the Slavs from different countries and sections of the Soviet Union all hated each other, so they would let the men volunteer in death squads and send them to countries they hated and let the roam around villages and rape and murder as they pleased. German command was okay with it, just as long as they murdered some Jews here and there, and photographed it.

German POW being escorted out of Stalingrad. Around 110,000 Germans were captured in and around Stalingrad. They were sent on a force march to a Gulag once the battle was over. Of the 110,000 or so POW's held by the Soviets, only around 5,000 actually survived until the end of the war, and even then they weren't released until the 1950's.
I am seriously thinking you guys should start a thread for your war photos, you are pretty much derailing this thread with them most of the time.

How can I derail a thread about auxiliary photos with auxiliary photos? They're no more off topic than Martin's photos of puppies are.
The derailing starts when you or somebody else starts bitching about them.
Well there used to be a war/military photos thread but somehow it got moved to the airsoft forum and I don't go there.

Yes it's easy to ignore photos of dead bodies when they almost fill your entire screen
it isnt hard to ignore things that dont interest you
It's easy not to go to a "Look at all these dead people haha, awesome!" thread, but when someone keeps posting them in a thread a lot of people go to for generally interesting and positive things, you'll obviously meet your target demographic, but only if your aim is to piss people off.
It depicts a scene from a Roman legend about a dispute between two warring cities, Rome and Alba Longa, and stresses the importance of masculine self-sacrifice for one's country and patriotism when three brothers from a Roman family, the Horatii, agree to end the war by fighting three brothers from a family of Alba Longa, the Curiatii. The three brothers, all of whom appear willing to sacrifice their lives for the good of Rome, are shown saluting their father who holds their swords out for them.

The American president is not Augustus, our military is not the Roman Legions.
During the British hegemony, America developed close ties with Britain, evolving into what has become known as a "special relationship" between the two. The many commonalities shared with the two nations (such as language and history) drew them together as allies. Nobody here posts war photos because they're some sort of war or gore fetishist or because they're trolling. I take a genuine interest in them and I post them here because of that.
If you don't like what I post, add me to your ignore list or get over it, because I'm not going to cater or dumb down my posts for you.
Because the thread is supposed to be about cool / interesting pictures, not dead Jews
Exactly, interesting
Just because you don't take interest in historic war pictures it doesn't mean no one else does.
