FallschirmJagers (German Paratroopers) about to jump for their final full-scale mission. Battle of Crete After the Battle of Crete, most of the paratroopers were sent to the Russian front, where the unit was mostly decimated and took heavy losses. It was later rebuilt and sent to Africa and Italy, where it played a large role. Hitler forbid any large scale paratrooper operations after Crete, saying that Paratroopers were a surprise attack unit, and they had long since lost the element of surprise after their famous attack on Eben-Emael.

[editline]20th October 2014[/editline] And also, have an old beer: [t]http://www.sciencealert.com.au/images/stories/new2014/beer-old.jpg[/t]
Back in 2010, five bottles of beer and 168 bottles of champagne were found in a submerged schooner near the Åland Islands off the coast of Finland. The shipwreck is believed to have been down there since 1842, and the discovery remains the oldest batch of still-drinkable beer Teaming up with researchers at the VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland and the KU Leuven’s Brewing Technology Research Group in Belgium, the Stallhagen staff were able to isolate 172-year-old lactic acid bacteria from the shipwrecked beer bottles. Amazingly, the bacteria were still alive. “Based on the micro-organisms in the bottles, we were able to figure out which type of yeast and bacteria were used by the beer’s 19th-century brewers. This information allowed us to trace the beer back to Belgium,” Gert De Rouck, a 'master brewer' from Stallhagen, told Gaynor Selby at The Guardian. “We combined history and tradition with innovative brewing knowledge. The symbiosis between the organisms and the malt flavours results in the very special overall flavour of this beer.” It’s not clear how the bacteria survived in such conditions, but then, we shouldn't really be surprised by what bacteria can do, considering that some species are known to live in 122-degree-Celsius conditions, while others are happy living in temperatures as low as -12 degrees Celsius. According to Sandle at Digital Journal, the Åland shipwreck bacteria are said to be the oldest living non-spore forming bacteria ever found in beer.
[editline]20th October 2014[/editline] + [t]http://fc07.deviantart.net/fs71/i/2012/334/1/2/downtown_by_peteamachree-d5moctd.jpg[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/lVavWPx.jpg[/t] [t]http://31.media.tumblr.com/a25e01720588375dec54852a20266faf/tumblr_n694b5U5EK1qg8i80o1_1280.jpg[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/8WbnVns.jpg[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/vgV8f12.jpg[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/Idcb0pu.jpg[/t]
Hitler forbid any large scale paratrooper operations after Crete, saying that Paratroopers were a surprise attack unit, and they had long since lost the element of surprise after their famous attack on Eben-Emael.
I thought he forbade paratroopers because of what a fuck-up Crete had become since that, despite winning the island, the Germans took longer than expected and at worse losses than expected in taking it with paratroopers.

Did you know the failure of that mission/campaign was owed to the fact that they had their weapons and ammunition drop in separately? And the people of Crete picking up arms of course..
I thought he forbade paratroopers because of what a fuck-up Crete had become since that, despite winning the island, the Germans took longer than expected and at worse losses than expected in taking it with paratroopers.
To Hitler, Crete was a failure because there was no element of surprise to it. British command assumed that if there was going to be an assault on the island, then it would be via paratroopers and gliders. It was an extremely costly defeat for the Germans at the time, but the English and ANZAC's took much worse losses. The worst lost for the Germans was nearly half of their JU-52 fleet, and a lot of good officers.
