Man, you don't see shit like that any more.
"Looking for somebody to go explore with me. You're probably going to die, but on the off chance we survive, you'll be famous!"

There isn't much to explore anymore besides space and the ocean sadly.

Are you going to see an ad in a paper asking for astronaut volunteers?

Might happen some day, if the cost of actually getting into space gets cheaper and the main obstacle is how to spend years in a ship without starving or going insane. Wages would be useless since you might never be coming back to Earth.

No, they have websites for that now.
[sp]No, there's no astronaut listings. Yet. But you can join Mission Control.[/sp]

Except you need a high quality degree in a difficult field of engineering at minimum to even be considered for a skilled role at SpaceX.
The Shackleton advert was basically just asking for tough men who don't care if they die.

The only thing that looks edible is the little pastry with a compass rose on it.
On the bottom plate, what IS the black stuff? It looks like burned receipts or something.

Like American food is any better, have you seen the shit you guys came up with in the 50s?
[editline]11th December 2014[/editline]
That said, I agree. British food... definitely doesn't put a focus on presentation.
Looks like the Christmas dinners I'd get at school each year.
Which cost something like £3.50.

Looks like stewed red cabbage, it's just the lighting that makes it look very dark in color. It's a traditional yuletide side dish from Northern Europe, typically eaten with pork roast with crackling, potatoes & brown sauce. It's an extremely common side dish in this part of the world.
This day in history:
Minutes before giving a speech on a campaign stop in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Theodore Roosevelt is shot in an assassination attempt.
The would-be assassin’s bullet is slowed down after travelling through a steel eyeglass case and the folded, fifty page speech he intended to give, stopping in his chest. Realizing that he wasn’t coughing up blood, Roosevelt figured he was well enough to go ahead and deliver his speech rather than rush to the hospital.
He spoke for the next 90 minutes, opening with the words:
“Ladies and gentlemen, I don’t know whether you fully understand that I have just been shot; but it takes more than that to kill a Bull Moose.”
Doctors deemed it too risky to remove the bullet, and Roosevelt carried it with him inside his body for the rest of his life.
