I never understood why you Americans care so much about police.
Here, no one gives a shit. Especially filming. What, you want to film a police officer giving a ticket?
Eh. In the US, the UK, and Canada, it's a matter of "Who watches the watchmen?" To put this in perspective, I need to explain this - When people become cops, they should be joining because the job, to them, is worth doing, and they believe in protecting the community. Pay, power, and respect should not be their motivations, or they won't have any one of those things for long. They should also have a respect for every individual's rights and politics, and put their professional ethic before their personal beliefs. They are instruments of the State, meant to enforce the laws of that government, and to protect people. The principle they uphold is one of order and rule of law- It doesn't matter if you disagree with the laws of a country, but if those laws aren't followed, if exceptions are made, it's only a matter of time until the public treats laws more as 'guidelines' than rules.
Unfortunately, not every police officer fits that ideal - One could say that a considerable percentage don't.
People treating them with suspicion comes with the job. Look around. Police are treated with awe by much of society, but the average person is still nervous even approaching a cop. This is exponentially worse when the person dealing with a police officer comes from a country in which the police are known to be brutal and corrupt. We look at cops and see only a uniform, and all those stories come to mind - Everyone knows somebody who's been given reason to hate cops. Some times those cops were acting as they should have been, and other times they've been overstepping their bounds, through ignorance or arrogance.
Anyway, to wrap this up, since people don't trust cops because of the actions of the bad ones, society in general thinks it best to keep a very close eye on them. They're given power and responsibility far above the average person, and it's in everyone's best interests to ensure that power is not being abused.

thats very pretty and all, but it doesnt change the fact that this "testing your rights" thing is a fad that has been going on for quite a while and most of the time serves only to waste the police's time and resources
americans are still all about "muh freedoms"
even a lot of the liberals, more than they'd like to admit
Actually, it's a complete misconception - A laughable misconception - that liberals have any problem with the exercise of freedoms. But there's a good way to put the dichotomy between American/Canadian liberals and conservatives into perspective.
Conservatives value social structure and order above all else. It was the conservative movement that had a problem with the abolition of slavery, with blacks being granted rights, the recognition of gay rights and the legalization of gay marriage. Why? Because they were afraid that the changes would disrupt society's balance. Some in particular, those with money and influence, had power invested in organizations or ventures that profited off the exploitation of the marginalized group, and knew that such a social change would hurt their financial well-being. Bigotry may not be an element of conservatism, but it became associated with it because many bigots found conservative social policy pleasing. Conservatives do, however, value financial freedom, and corporate deregulation. They don't like to be taxed and want to be free to make their personal fortunes without the government getting a cut. Even if that cut is used to fund welfare, education, and healthcare - To a conservative, only those who work hard are worthy of those things, and the poor in society who rely on social welfare are parasites who refuse to earn their keep.
Conservatives, in short, value fiscal freedom but are often against social liberty and social change.
Liberals are the opposite. They typically value diversity over order, through the belief that exposure to and tolerance towards different cultures, belief systems and paradigms enriches people by encouraging them to question the norm. They believe that society can be improved by taking the best elements of many different ideologies, and are willing to entertain most of those. Liberals are quick to identify and condemn social injustice. And they believe that change to eliminate injustice needs to happen, even if it means that the balance of power and wealth in society is upset.
When it comes to the economy, however, Liberals are more strict. They believe that taxation and regulation are both very necessary things - They tend to make the gap between the richest and poorest in society a little smaller, and they fund infrastructure and social programs that help keep even society's most unfortunate fed, sheltered, and with access to education to improve their lot. Furthermore, they believe that more taxation and regulation will lead to a more prosperous and stable economy as a whole, because people will have more spending power in general.
tl;dr:
Liberals = Social freedom, economic regulation
Conservatives = Social rigidity, economic freedom.
alternate TL;DR
Liberals: let's actually help people by doing a thing
Conservatives: NO DONT DO THE THING SNOWBALL EFFECT SLIPPERY SLOPE SOON WE'LL BE FUCKING ANTELOPES

I'm sure you'd much rather be wrongfully arrested or detained than inconvenience a poor, overworked police officer. Other people have more important obligations.

Nah, fascism would be a better way to describe it, a lot of communist countries tend to be fascist though.

my grudge with it is not when people actually remember those rights for when a situation comes up that they're actually useful, but when they do really suspicious shit JUST to get the police's attention, and film the whole thing while being dicks to the officers the entire time only to assert themselves of how cool they are for doing such a thing.
what good does that do? it teaches like 4-5 officers about your rights, but it also makes them be busy dealing with someone who's not a threat and just an asshole in general, while they could be doing other, more important stuff

None of those pictures involving police had anything to do with the types of annoying people carrying unloaded AK47s down the highway trying to gain attention, I don't know if you didn't fully understand the images or if there is a language disconnect but they are just to inform people of what exactly you can and should do when dealing with police since most people either just lock up or do something stupid because you are not taught anywhere how to handle situations where you are approached by the police.
As much as the media and dumb kids over exaggerate America into being a police state where blacks are beaten for fun and cops use blind men for target practice, it doesn't help when people from other countries trivialize our problems.

You started off with an extremely bigoted and ignorant post about Americans and then replied to someone who was answering a posters question by going off on a tangent about Americans "testing your rights" when literally nothing anyone posted or talked about in the thread had anything to do with that.

I was taught how to handle situations like that. I figured most people were.

the black wave represents night and the yellow wave represents day. the redder an area gets the more internet it is using, and the bluer or greener it gets the less it is using.
Europeans seem to use the internet more during the hours before they go to bed unlike americans who use it the most in the middle of the day.
It looks like europe and north america is synchronised. I don't see that connection between any of the other continents.
I mean yeah, makes sense. But cool nonetheless to see it like this.
Also, the United States seems to have more active users during the middle of the night. More Orange/Red and Green whereas for Europe it goes primarily Green and Blue. Japan and New Zealand almost seem to follow the same pattern as the United States. (Comparing them to the Asias and Australia respectively.)
There is a 'boost', too in the United States somewhere between the middle of the night and early morning where usage surges to life over just about the Entire nation. In Europe it all lights up just prior to the sunrise as if it was lighting it up as it goes.
