That reminds me of a lil story from after WWII
When the US occupied Japan after they burn down all their cities and completely flattened 2 of them, they were helping rebuild their army in case the reds decided to invade weakened Japan and turn it communist. The US supplied them with some Easy 8s and other Sherman tanks, but they couldn't be used because the Japanese drivers couldn't reach the pedals.

It's a sort of prototype of an insulator so you can hold hot cups.
The idea is that the final design expands evenly so it makes an insulating barrier to replace those cardboard sleeves on take out coffee cups.
