Holy hell, that looks like something out of a Dystopian novel What is it called?
"Big Ass African Statue" obviously
I think that statue is great.
It might have been posted before but the steel statue of Genghis Khan in Mongolia is the most impressive statue I've ever seen.
Man, why can't we in Norway have such awesome gigantic statues? All we'we got is this dang-ass orgy tower in the middle of our park
That's pretty fucking creepy I can only imagine what it looks like in a dark stormy day
That's pretty fucking creepy I can only imagine what it looks like in a dark stormy day
i imagine that is sucks you in when you touch it and it keeps building every time someone gets sucked in
It's not as gigantic as the previous ones in this thread, but I pass this statue quite a lot and I'm always impressed by it.
I like the way it's streamlined and not at all dong-shaped But seriously, it's very nice. I feel like I've seen it before, where is it?
Heres my favorite statues and monuments Warsaw resistance monument; dedicated to the children that fought and died in the resitance uprisings during German occupation of Warsaw. Warsaw resistance saw the Soviets on the outskirts of the city, thinking they were about to charge in and get rid of Fritz. So they rose up and started attacking the Germans all out while waiting for the Soviets to charge in and save the day. Soviets waited on the outskirts of the city until the Polish resistance was wiped out; Soviets saw the resistance as being part of what was left of the Polish democracy, so they let the Germans slaughter them so the Soviets didn't have too. Katyn Massacre monument. After the invasion of Poland, the soviets rounded up around 15,000 prisoners, politicians, and political prisoners, dragged them to the woods in Russia and executed all of them.
Wow, that last one is brutal, I'm not so sure I would like seeing that every day, but that's just me
What's that big black cube thingy? It looks familiar but I can't quite place it.
The allspark
Last monument from me: "Swords in mountain" (it sounds better in Norwegian) is located by the Hafrsfjord fjord, just outside the city of Stavanger, it's to commemorate the battle of Hafrsfjord in 872, when King Harald Fairhair gathered Norway to a single kingdom [thumb]http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/c/c1/Sverd_i_fjell_panorama.jpg[/thumb] Jeebus that's big
What's that big black cube thingy? It looks familiar but I can't quite place it.
The Kaaba, I.E the holiest site in Islam.
What's that big black cube thingy? It looks familiar but I can't quite place it.
Jesus Alice I love your avatar so goddamn much
The Kaaba, I.E the holiest site in Islam.
How odd, that name doesn't ring any bells but it's exactly what I was thinking it was after a quick googling.
What's that big black cube thingy? It looks familiar but I can't quite place it.
if you destroy it all Muslims shut down like in star wars episode one
if you destroy it all Muslims shut down like in star wars episode one
i can confirm this
How odd, that name doesn't ring any bells but it's exactly what I was thinking it was after a quick googling.
I'm sure you remember the name of the place instead, it's called Mecca
Wow, that last one is brutal, I'm not so sure I would like seeing that every day, but that's just me
The more you see and hear something the less impact it's meaning has. It's why we can joke about the genocide of 6-25 million people so easily.
I'm sure you remember the name of the place instead, it's called Mecca
Mecca was my first thought but I could have sworn I'd heard the cube called something completely different to what KingArcher posted. But I can't find a name I recognize and I can't remember what I had heard of it as so it's likely simply me remembering incorrectly.

look at dat sheet
Perhaps a different way of writing it? Idk, here in Brazil it's sometimes spelled as Caaba for example, but since you're in America according to flagdog, I doubt you'd have seen it written in a different way
Perhaps a different way of writing it? Idk, here in Brazil it's sometimes spelled as Caaba for example, but since you're in America according to flagdog, I doubt you'd have seen it written in a different way
Well, the proper name is in Arabic (الكعبة). There are multiple ways to transliterate Arabic, mainly because it's an alphabet where the vowels are mostly implied (reading only the letters actually written, you get 'lk'b'a). So both Caaba and Kaaba would be "correct" transliterations.
So on the subject of statues... This is in one of the courtyards at my university.
