the stories are good just don't expect a good twist [editline]14th October 2013[/editline] the reason that there are so many visual interpretations of lovecraft's monsters isn't because nobody has lived to see them in the stories or that they were described in a way that could be perceived in many ways, it's because he decided to not really describe them at all
Perhaps the details of the monsters weren't important, what if the emphasis is on how the protagonist reacts to the things they see and experience. Read goosebumps if you want spooky monsters jumping out of cupboards.
From what I understand, personally he was kind of an asshole.
When other politicians (congressmen etc.) disagreed with him he would take them apart and perform 'the treatment';
The Treatment could last ten minutes or four hours. It came, enveloping its target, at the Johnson Ranch swimming pool, in one of Johnson's offices, in the Senate cloakroom, on the floor of the Senate itself — wherever Johnson might find a fellow Senator within his reach. Its tone could be supplication, accusation, cajolery, exuberance, scorn, tears, complaint and the hint of threat. It was all of these together. It ran the gamut of human emotions. Its velocity was breathtaking, and it was all in one direction. Interjections from the target were rare. Johnson anticipated them before they could be spoken. He moved in close, his face a scant millimeter from his target, his eyes widening and narrowing, his eyebrows rising and falling. From his pockets poured clippings, memos, statistics. Mimicry, humor, and the genius of analogy made The Treatment an almost hypnotic experience and rendered the target stunned and helpless.

That's subjective as heck IMO, I too have the necronomicon and it's fairly obv that the stories aren't about the monsters in themselves.
Does anyone know a place to get ebook versions of Lovecraft's work? (Preferably epub since that's the only format I know for sure works on my tablet's app but it probably supports others.) I've always been interested in reading his stuff but for various reasons have simply never gotten around to it.
As someone who is a massive fan of Lovecraft (my favorite author) who owns The 800 page Necronomicon and the 600 page Eldritch Tales, I think you people are just expecting an ADD story full of explosive scenes and not ready to use your imagination when reading a book which is kinda the whole point. He overwrites on purpose, they are stories from the 1920's and 30's, standards of language were way different then. Sometimes you have to read several parts of a story over a few times to take in all the nuance of what he describes because it is so detailed or alien of description, Dunsany and Derleth and Lovecraft were the best about being different and attempting to describe the unimaginable in an interesting way. People dislike him because he is popularized in modern themes sometimes, therefor popular = bad in the eyes of a large amount of people who have never actually attempted to pick up a book. Like say FP Fast Threads users with their massive hipsterism mob mentality.
As a student pilot and history buff, I just had the best weekend of my life; I volunteered around and flew in this motherfucker twice: [t]http://i.imgur.com/j0XLadC.jpg[/t] But that wasn't the best part [t]http://i.imgur.com/VUCX6hu.jpg[/t] This is George Prezioso, a 94 year-old WW2 vet and radio operator in B-17s. He was shot down 5 times (including in the B-17F Black Jack, about which there is a documentary on its discovery at the bottom of the Pacific), picked up by Jack Kennedy aboard PT-109, and had dinner with JFK Jr. before he went on his fatal flight. That's him after 70 years in his old position, "The best seat in the house." And I hung out with him for 5 days. The fucking stories he told were amazing: dropping bombs into volcanoes for the hell of it, cooking vegetables in lava, almost being eaten by ritualistic cannibals, the list goes on. He's easily the coolest person I've had the privilege of speaking to. Fuck, man, those guys were something else. [editline]15th October 2013[/editline] ETA: Here's a video about George, this dude's something else
Pizza chains suck, I order from local businesses. Since my town is like 80% Italian, pizza is gud
I eat pizza from a variety of places. I don't think I could stand eating the same pizza from the same place over and over. Some are chains, some are local areas. I try to balance it all out.
