wait, banana scale? is the thing really THAT humongous?
If the Banana isn't accurate, and the squid's fully grow, that eye is roughly the size of an adult human head.
That would be creepy as fuck. Floating in the middle of space, no one around, you look up at the nearest window and there's a freaking astronaut staring in at you and smiling.
What makes it awkward is right just before that point is when you decided to experiment with masturbating in space.
wait, banana scale? is the thing really THAT humongous?
No the banana is not accurate. That squid is 3m long.
"OH SH-"
More like "ALLAHU AC-"
I'm pretty sure I saw an old movie like that, can't remember the name but basically it's about an astronaut on a lone expedition to the moon and a presumed-dead shuttle pilot from the previous expedition that went horribly wrong about 6 years ago starts haunting him. It's pretty eerie because there's a scene where the astronaut is eating his lunch inside his lunar lander and one of the suits hanging up on the wall behind him suddenly starts moving except the reflective visor is down so you can't see the face. Spooked me out as a kid.
I don't think it's what you're thinking of, but that sounds pretty similar to Moon, which has a cool poster so I'm gonna post that. a statue that depicts the slaying of the Beast of Gevaudan, an animal that is responsible for the deaths of more than a hundred people in the mid-1700's. It was "similar in appearance to a wolf, but the size of a cow, with red fur with black streaks on its back." The French government put a lot of money and effort into the slaying of this beast before it was finally killed by a french hunter named Jean Chastel. A popular telling of the story says that as the hunting party was about to start, he sat down to say a prayer. As he was saying the prayer, the Beast came into sight. Chastel proceeded to finish his prayer before picking up his rifle and killing the beast, though some say the prayer part was made up by storytellers for dramatic effect. To this day no one is sure what the Beast of Gevaudan was, due to a lack of pictures and the fact that no other animal that fits the description was ever found, although many say that it's possible it was some sort of overgrown dog-wolf hybrid.

I read that the tank shell wasn't explosive in this, as well as that there probably wasn't anyone hanging around the camera.
I read that the tank shell wasn't explosive in this, as well as that there probably wasn't anyone hanging around the camera.
The camera part is likely, but I'm certain that the shell is either HEAT or HE(-Frag). I'm leaning towards it being a HEAT round. Either way its not a Sabot and AP 125 is nearly nonexistent (which it isn't either). Perhaps it was staged, perhaps with a training round, if its not an action shot. I don't know what those look like (if they're the same as HEAT/HE). It's just so perfect is whats weird...

If we're posting our cats being cute; [t]http://i.imgur.com/YggmNB9.jpg?2[/t] My Kitten, Simo, likes to sleep in an old fur ushanka. I had it set out to go with a Halloween costume when she claimed it as her own.
My Kitten, Simo, likes to sleep in an old fur ushanka. I had it set out to go with a Halloween costume when she claimed it as her own.
How funny, before I moved out of my parent's house last month, we adopted a white, blue-eyed kitten named Sugar, and she liked to sleep in my ushanka too. Those hats are incredibly warm and fuzzy and they're perfectly sized for kittens. I don't have a picture of Sugar in my hat, but here's a picture of her nonetheless:
holy shit I think we adopted the same cat dood. [t]http://i.imgur.com/IyvIyiw.jpg?1[/t]
My cat is way too big to be adorable most of the time [t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/13796438/20131026_002.jpg[/t] Won't stop him from trying, tho [t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/13796438/20120414_001.jpg[/t]

Plastic is pretty erosion resistant but it's not the kind of material thats durable enough for us to be making cars and skyscrapers out of.

He must've been a terrible shot.

The T-72's gun only has APFSDS, HEAT and HEF rounds. It certainly wasn't a sabot, so it could only be HEAT or HEF. It also didn't really have an explosion like HEF, which leaves us the HEAT round.

Any handheld camera you could bring into a warzone wouldn't be able to properly capture a shell moving at 2000 fps. You would need a high speed camera to capture it, otherwise you would just be lucky to see a blur.

If the camera is going to be knocked out within some miniscule fraction of a second after the detonation there's no telling what kind of explosion it has either. Just from seeing diagrams of 125mm shells I'm pretty sure it's a HEAT shell. [editline]2nd November 2013[/editline]
Why is it unbelievable such a camera is around Syria?
It's not the quality of camera that bugs me, it's the fact that it's something you'd see in a movie. Tank rolls up aiming slightly off-angle, stops right in frame nearly following the rule of thirds, takes aim, and fires almost straight into the camera. [editline]2nd November 2013[/editline] Anyway pictures. Have some old French Afghanistan shots: [t]http://u.cubeupload.com/mbbird/800xk.jpg[/t] [t]http://u.cubeupload.com/mbbird/235asafg638.jpg[/t] [t]http://u.cubeupload.com/mbbird/800xo.jpg[/t] [t]http://u.cubeupload.com/mbbird/asafg1304.jpg[/t] [t]http://u.cubeupload.com/mbbird/FrenchMarinesAfghani.jpg[/t] [t]http://u.cubeupload.com/mbbird/f57027n2009205s370192.jpg[/t] There's were a lot of good French war photographers for Afghanistan and more than anything they seemed to like reminding the viewers that Afghanistan is a beautiful place, despite the conflict.
Why is it unbelievable such a camera is around Syria?
Because you would need an insanely expensive high-speed camera, which would be extremely unweidly and cumbersome to bring into a war zone. And with it being a warzone, it will probably be destroyed, and thats a lot of money lost. That shell is moving around 2,000 feet per second, or 1,300 miles per hour. A 115gr 9x19mm moves slower than that, and you can't catch that on a handheld camera.
It looks to me though as if it's just very low field of view, and the tank is actually really far away, note how the only sound you hear is the shell hitting. Either that, or it's fake, because that shell looks far too crisp and shiny compared to the general quality of the recording.
