SAO was trying to be many things. Not just an Action Anime. But I do agree, the action scenes were amazing.

There actually is quite a lot without it, as long as you don't watch shounen or ecchi(obviously). It's pretty uncommon to find it out of those two genres, although it does seep in from time to time.

think k-on, it's character-driven so it doesn't matter what they're doing as long as it's pleasant/funny to watch
in minami-ke there's a lot of hit-n-miss when it comes to jokes and more often than not it's pretty lame, also the running gags of the trap and such get boring after a while
