If you have other pets be careful, if they eat the dead rodent they can also be poisoned.
I recommend a bucket trap; it is easy, cheap, and you dont have to worry about cross contamination.

I have seen animals made very sick after eating rodents killed by poison. The poison can remain inside the rat/mouse even after the rodent dies. Not all of it will be metabolized before the rodent kicks the bucket.
