it could actually be really good with a few changes, for example having the matches be larger so the general disbalance and shittiness of the matchmaker wouldn't suck so much, and truth be told it's been getting better lately with the removal of 1v1 matches, selective spawning and some other things
and the customization system has yet to be matched by anything
I mean come on, making a character's face and body is great and all, but then there's the tattoo and clothing editors, the car editors (though bit of a shame about how the bodykits are buy only), symbol editors for vandalizing the social district with shitty renditions of naked women, and even custom music editors (though it's a shame how nobody even bothers trying to make original tunes, all the "good" music artists on all the servers just download midis and copy their notations)
the gunplay is strangely satisfying
the controls are very nice and responsive
the randomized mission system keeps it all surprisingly fresh
the graphical style is nice and easy on the eye, reflects the commercial urban apocalypse atmosphere pretty well
the progression system, while it looks daunting and ass backwards as fuck, is actually incredibly addictive, provides all the basic good stuff at low levels at a very high and enticing pace - for the first tier of contacts, you level up like once per mission, and each mission unlocks a gun, some clothing, symbols, cars, other cool stuff, so you get lots of shit at a fast pace which makes you crave for more, and at higher levels you still get something for each and every level, but it's mostly modified versions of guns, cars with more upgrade capacity, higher end clothing and presets, and through the levels the progression rate slows down a lot (I have like 1150 hours on my main character and still haven't unlocked everything) but at that level you're kinda playing the game for the sake of playing it, but you still have a lot of endgame goals to reach (like unlocking three slot guns, or chrome skins for them, takes an utter boatload of kills) and it kinda feels very natural, and extremely addictive
the animations (aside from how there's no such thing as idly holding a weapon with a foregrip in both hands) are soothingly good (okay fine the guns are completely static but idgaf), you know when sometimes you're playing an MMO and you look at it, and you see people running about like they'd shat themselves and thus are being extra careful not to touch their soiled undies with their thighs (I'm looking at you, WoW's human male)
I love the criminal revolution and legal vigilantism setting and backstory (really disappointed it's not developed further through the course of the game, actually my biggest irk with the game)
there's a ton of attention to ambient detail, stuff like passersby commenting on your actions, people running off panicking when you open fire, mugging victims condemning their muggers, people seeing shit happen and grabbing their phones to call for help, people yelling in all sorts of languages, spanish, korean, english, russian and a few more I can't remember atm, all the corporations and their adverts on the billboards and there's a lot of lore for the world to be absorbed
it's such a shame the post-bankruptcy developers can't afford to maintain this level of detail and quality of content and are just forced to funnel all their resources and incredibly limited manpower to making content like new car kits for the same 3 cars, boring guns that nobody really wants to use a few days after their released (though everybody buys the permanent account wide versions of them for insane prices), overpriced clothing packs and/or cheap but incredibly boring and useless single clothing pieces, and balance adjustments that usually just ruin the weapon in question (and everybody once again turns back to ye olde Colby CSG-20 and OCA Nano 'Conoisseur' combo, which are apparently "not OP because the CSG does less vehicle damage than the other shotgun" and "the nano is fine since it doesn't have as much range as it used to" which is bullshit and they all know it)
sadly it's incredibly infuriating to lose in (unless you build up a chill attitude toward it and/or have people to share your fury with (<3 u, Facepunch Enforcement)) and inhumanly unfriendly to new players, which also are given the false impression that all of the cash shop weapons are incredibly overpowered, which isn't entirely true, I can usually use the free starter rifle that everybody hates to take on cash shop shotguns up close and have a better chance of surviving than they, but then again, these people get utterly decimated by people with tons of experience, 1v2 rounds where the lone guy has 18 kills and the other two have one kill combined really aren't all that uncommon, and they see a golden or purple weapon in their hands, of course they're gonna call hacks or pay2win, and the unstable performance and incredibly high RAM requirements (32 bit systems outright can't run it without some console magics to give them more than 2 gigs of memory) chase off even those that actually enjoy it somewhat, and even those actually do meet up with some hackers which are hard to catch since the game is built to be as hacker-proof as possible (the only hack you can realistically do is a wallhack and a primitive aimbot that snaps your crosshair to the target and fires, recoil, damage, rate of fire all stay the same)
it's not my dirty secret
i wuv u apb, but please, stop farting at people that want to like you
I believe this is the third year I'm playing it right now, countless good memories were had
Combat Arms
:suicide:
Again, Planetside 2
It needs serious optimization
If it was optimized pretty well I would be playing it all the time
RuneScape. I still think that even the new version is not that bad. I just wish it had less worlds so the community wouldn't seem so small.
SWTOR for now, APB once upon a time (hell, it's my most played game on Steam, even TF2 got wrecked), until I fucked up with the hack once, and then again for unknown reasons. Also played Global Agenda a bit and actually liked it, until I realized it's half-dead and abandoned by Hi-Rez. And that's the only MMO's I played.
