Probably my second time telling it but tl;dr, weeaboo class everyone talks about naruto, forced to go to anime club and japanese club or else I fail the class, etc etc

Aight- so I guess I'll tell my story here. When I was back in highschool I didn't want to take any languages like fucking spanish or god forbidden french... I was actually pretty clueless as to what to take for a language at the time, so I honestly had no clue. That was until I figured out there was a japanese class. I thought to myself, "Well my grandmothers full blown japanese- I'm sure she'd be impressed if I took the class" etc. So thats exactly what I did- ignoring the obvious fact that there'd be a bunch of weaboos in the class. Now please note, that I wouldn't exactly mind them if they didn't talk about fucking bleach, and naruto 24/7, because I shit you not. Thats exactly what they did. I specifically remember a certain incident, where I was sitting in class, and it was beyond fucking noisy. It was even to be considered chaotic because it was THAT bad, and a kid in front of me decided to contribute to the chaos by making stupid random noises on purpose while the teacher was literally almost crying.. Needless to say I sat there with a furious look on my face thinking to myself, "why the hell am I here?", and I had to keep reminding myself that I wanted to learn the language, and get through all the crap that was thrown at me. So basically, after the kid in front of me started making random ass noises- the teacher screamed at the top of her lungs and everybody shut the fuck up. She then went around, and asked every single student, "now why did YOU take japanese?", and I was actually surprised at this... People STILL said shit about anime, "I took this class so I could be like *insert some anime character's name here*", and yes it was some anime character. I'm pretty sure it was something from Naruto because the name sounded all too damn familiar, I believe it was "sasuke" or something.
Anyways, people still pulled the same crap they pulled daily. But as the year continued to progress- kids started dropping out from the class simply because the language was too difficult for them. Luckily, most of the kids that DID drop out were the people thinking they're japanese, or hard-core bleach/naruto fans. But there was this one girl in particular that I didn't like at all, and she was able to barely manage through the class the entire year simply because she was retaking it. She failed it the first time around- both semesters. I learned an all right amount of japanese- but never enough to actually carry out an entire conversation with somebody. I learned to tolerate others more than anything else in that class, and I still can't believe I overlooked the fact that there'd be obnoxious kids in that class.. But did I learn some things? Yeah, in the end I did. But I'll fucking tell you right now- you're better off sticking to something like Japanese online podcasts or something like Rosetta stone if you're REALLY looking to learn the language. You're also going to have to practice frequently because you're going to forget so much shit if you don't.
TL;DR: The class was miserable because naruto/bleach fans ruined it, made the teacher cry, and I learned to be more tolerant of others than learning the language itself.

also- if you're truly interested in learning Japanese, I'd try to stay away from classes (personally), and stick to some kind of program out there.
Just not rosetta stone, for japanese anyways.
What I'm planning to do is finish trying to become fluent in Tagalog (Native language also so I know when all my relatives are joking about me which happens quite a bit), and since I took japanese classes in high school I'll work on that after finish learning tagalog.
That was hard to read. Paragraph formatting needed.
Sad though.
So right now I'm just listening to podcasts thats teaching me bit by bit. As bad as that may seem- I have no alternative at the moment. I don't have any close family on my mom's side that doesn't live in Japan.
Also you could try finding a private tutor for the language but that might be hard.
It'll probably kill my wallet aswell.
