It's mostly a ton of smaller nuances, like how the people in your guild/party can't see your level The glaringly obvious errors are due to bad writing [editline]18th September 2012[/editline] Sure, it's an MMO in the basest form in that there are guilds, dungeons, parties, etc., but it feels like the world adapts to the plot, not the other way around Saying that the world is "artificial" seems redundant, but that's what it is I'd expect someone who plays video games to be able to establish game features beforehand and connect them to the series, not just go "oh yeah x is y now BECAUSE IT'S A VIDEO GAME"
So I heard that based on his twitter posts in the last month, the author to SAO has played the following MMOs: Holy shit. That explains EVERYTHING.
How so?
How so?
UO was the epitome of player killing in MMOs. It was glorious.
Wish there were more games like that. You die? Game over. Start a new character and try again. Wouldn't attract many players, though.
Realm of the Mad God. FTL - Faster Than Light. DayZ. War Z > Wouldn't attract many players...
Realm of the Mad God. FTL - Faster Than Light. DayZ. War Z > Wouldn't attract many players...
That and almost every Roguelike.
Watch this show, I thought it was pretty good. Thought it would be Idolm@ster IN SPAAACE, but goddamn did it surprise me during its short run.
I didn't think it was fairly good. It suffered from too much angst drama and fanservice, they should've focused more on the plot imo. I'm surprised its even getting a second season at all. [editline]18th September 2012[/editline] Quite frankly the only episodes I thought that were decent was the one with the snow planet and the last episode.
Realm of the Mad God. FTL - Faster Than Light. DayZ. War Z > Wouldn't attract many players...
I meant something more like Sword of Art Online. Something you spend months or years doing, then BAM, everything is gone. I guess EVE would be one of them, but that's too "hardcore" for a lot of people, as in people cannot be bothered learning how to play it. Never heard of Realm of Mad God. Day Z, have heard about it, seen vids and such. AFAIK you can live long, but generally your lives are short. Also heard several people being put off by losing their progress. War Z, doesn't seem to be released yet. Roguelike seems interesting, but I haven't heard people talk about that either.
I meant something more like Sword of Art Online. Something you spend months or years doing, then BAM, everything is gone.
so lik real life
I meant something more like Sword of Art Online. Something you spend months or years doing, then BAM, everything is gone.
This is literally the worst fucking idea ever.
Roguelike seems interesting, but I haven't heard people talk about that either.
It's a genre, not a game.
UO was the epitome of player killing in MMOs. It was glorious.
The best
This is literally the worst fucking idea ever.
Some people like it rough
Day Z, have heard about it, seen vids and such. AFAIK you can live long, but generally your lives are short. Also heard several people being put off by losing their progress.
Surely it must be worse to lose months of progress as opposed to a few hours worth
The best
I'm pretty sure the plot to sleep killing came almost directly from UO.
I'm pretty sure the plot to sleep killing came almost directly from UO.
Sleep PKing is another thing that doesn't make sense to me I thought they said SAO was "fair" in game terms
Sleep PKing is another thing that doesn't make sense to me I thought they said SAO was "fair" in game terms
Well, the developer missed that other players [sp]could "take control" over other players by moving their hands and accepting the duel on the menu.[/sp]
Well, the developer missed that other players [sp]could "take control" over other players by moving their hands and accepting the duel on the menu.[/sp]
well then that's shitty design
Sleep PKing is another thing that doesn't make sense to me I thought they said SAO was "fair" in game terms
There's nothing inherently unfair with taking control of an unconscious person.
Kind of a big deal since people can die (in real life) because they decided to take a nap It's simply another bad plot device
There's nothing inherently unfair with taking control of an unconscious person.
are you serious

Several people are put off by WoW as well, that doesn't stop it from being insanely popular. Which DayZ is. That's becase it isn't.
I thought the creator of the game was a genius or something
are you serious
I think it was sarcasm.
seto no hanayome is hurting my sides the laughter will leave me scarred for weeks
So, been wondering. What are people's opinions on Dog Days S2 compared to the first season?
oh my god why isn't there a dwarf fortress anime yet
yes hell yes [editline]18th September 2012[/editline] Damn, I can't find that picture where an enemy uses a whip and the first attack does no damage, but the second attack splits the dwarf in half
So, been wondering. What are people's opinions on Dog Days S2 compared to the first season?
it became more interesting when they introduced becky and sink's cousin to fronyard
At the sleep PKing thing in SAO: So if you accept the duel with their hand in a safezone their HP can go down But the duel ends after one hit, that was shown in both the duels that occurred Or if it doesn't (I think it said there was different kinds of duels), why would you be able to die in a duel, that doesn't make sense I had a discussion for like half an hour about this and we couldn't figure out how it would work at all. There's a lot of other stuff I really like about SAO though. Like the motion controlled attacks thing - it's a good bridge mechanic between dynamic motion attacks and typical MMO attack mechanics. If I were doing a game based around melee combat with motion control that's how I'd do it. The rock throwing technique was a cool touch, too. The fact that you can never see another player's level is weird, though. I swear at times some people said they could see it, too. I'm going to have to marathon it once it's over and compile a list of this shit. I fucking love game design
Sleep PK? Didn't they figure that out in another episode? Also I don't know any characters that said they know another player's level unless they were told. Oh Sleep PK only works if the player is sleeping outside a safe zone.
