Well the tv show is more of shounen based and takes out almost all the horror an DEEP that's in the manga
The OVAs go by the manga for the first two then the third one is like an alternative ending for it

I skipped a bit through the ova on youtube, saw fairies being eaten alive by plants. Hoping its just not a shit ton of pointless violence.
Kikoushi Enma looks like an okay show. Do I need to watch the original 1970s cartoon to get it though? Shows that old are kind of hard to get into.

As far as mecha anime goes, I've only watched Eureka Seven (+Eureka Seven AO), and Manyuu Hikenchou. Eureka Seven's good, 50 episodes (longest series I've watched), and Manyuu Hikenchou is only 12 episodes. Eureka Seven's the better of the two.
